DeleteNot quite as outrageous, but I recall maybe 10-12 years ago when an SBC (Southern Baptist Church) official proclaimed Al Gore a "modern day prophet". Stuff like this demonstrates the authenticity of Scripture in that it predicts that, just "as there were false prophets" to Old Testament Israel, so there will be "false teachers" in the nominally "Christian" church. --Ron W
