Saudi Arabian military aviation students in
Florida have been temporarily grounded as U.S. officials investigate
last week's shooting by a Saudi military member at a naval air base in
Pensacola, Fla. that killed three people.
“A
safety stand-down and operational pause commenced Monday for Saudi
Arabian aviation students at NAS Pensacola and NAS Whiting Field and NAS
Mayport, Florida,” Navy spokeswoman Lt. Commander Megan Isaac told The
Hill.
Reuters, which first reported the news, said that it would affect over 300 Saudi students across the three bases.

I have had a few military classes with Saudi's. There are 3 types:
ReplyDelete1) rich distant relative of the royal family that is looking for blonde wife to take back to Saudi - he meets minimal requirements to pass class.
2) Party animal. Skips classes getting drunk or stoned while surrounding himself with strippers. Skips out before he is kicked out of class to seek refuge in Europe as he can never go back to Saudi.
3) The guy that is giving his all, usually first son of some sheikh that will inherit most of his father's fortune. This guy is rare.
I have always thought it was foolish to have them train alongside our active duty military. I believed they should have gotten the same training but not co-mingled in the classes.

We got to "try" to train these troops how to pack and maintain the MARTIN BAKER GRU-7 Ejection seat Parachute system!!!..in the F-14 "Twin Tailed" TOMCAT's the Shah bought from us to try to shoot down a Russian MIG-29 FOX BAT!! "LOTS'A FUN!!!!!!!"
This Saudi/Pensacola trip brings back lots of "Memories!!!" and that was '1976!!! The more things change, the more they remain the same!!!!
My time over there was when the "Shah" was still in power!!! I have some "Tales to tell!!!!!!!" Hopefully you will still be in NC for St. Pat's!! I will visit.. If you are across the pond... we'll figger' out somethn' down the road....
