Gretchen 'The Witch' Whitmer Lashes out at Michiganders: Lockdown ‘Not Optional,’ Orders ‘Not Suggestions’

In a pool photo provided by the Michigan Office of the Governor, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer addresses the state during a speech in Lansing, Mich., Monday, May 11, 2020. Protests against Whitmer have erupted in recent weeks as she has put in place restrictions on businesses and Michigan residents, including …
As Michiganders continue to defy her orders, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer lashed out at residents on Monday, saying the coronavirus lockdown is “not optional.”

Whitmer was asked about business owners and residents “doubting” her authority to enforce executive orders.

She claimed to know how “frustrating” the situation is, before cautioning “I expect people to follow the law.
“These executive orders are not a suggestion. They’re not optional. They’re not helpful hints.”

Owosso barber Karl Manke has become a like folk hero in the movement to reopen the state. The 77-year-old Manke has refused to close his shop, despite repeated orders to do so.

    1. I'd put in for a raffle ticket to be the one who kicks her off for that last short trip... and I don't live in MI!

  3. Ah, but it IS optional. No governor has the power to override the guarantees of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, which protect personal liberty and property. Either Whitmer doesn't know this, in which case she's too ignorant to hold her position, or she does, in which case she deserves a long prison sentence under Section 242 of Title 18 of the United States Code!

  4. It all depends on what the laws of her state are. Virginia gives no such power to our governor, but he did it anyway. And imagine my surprise that not a single judge came forward with an injunction to stop him. Not a single states attorney, AG, or private lawyer has taken him to court over it.

  7. I live in Lansing, Michigan. The law said she could declare a state of emergency for 45 days on her own, after which it would require the legislatures approval. The legislature met at the end of April just before the 45 days ran out and voted not to extend it. She then extended it on her own. She claims that a 1945 law lets her keep it in effect indefinitely, but a law was passed in 1976 putting in the 45 day limit. She keeps on putting out executive orders anyway.

    1. Guess she isn't interested in getting reelected but seems some law firm should have taken this up.
