Michigan Doctor Says Coronavirus Similar to Flu, Calls for Lifted Restrictions

Via Terry

A Michigan doctor has published an open letter to the public and Michigan legislators, saying that the coronavirus is no worse than the common flu and that shelter-in-place orders and other treatments should be restricted by region and industry.

“All available data suggests the mortality rate of COVID-19 in the general population will approximate that of the seasonal flu in the long run,” said Dr. Rob Steele, a doctor of internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology and echocardiography. “It is the same patients in danger from either infection with similar hospitalization and mortality rates.  Seasonal influenza is dramatically more dangerous for those ages 2 and under than COVID.”

  1. State law allows her to declare a state of emergency for up to 45 days on her own, after which it needs the approval of the legislature. The 45 days were up at midnight on April 30, and the legislature voted not to extend it. She then simply declared a new one. We in Michigan literally do not know whether or not we are under a state of emergency. I don't think so, but will it be enforced?

    1. It seems to me she tried to circumvent the law and I believe it will be struck down.
