Scott Carpenter: "Art Robinson is the best can-do guy I know."
Dear Friends,
Navy Commander and Astronaut Scott Carpenter was America's second man in
space and the public voice of NASA’s Apollo moon program.
When the re-entry system failed on Commander Scott Carpenter’s
spacecraft he guided his capsule by hand while looking out of the side
window. He brought that thing back out of the sky – by skill and sheer
force of will – to an awaiting nation.
When America’s Apollo moon-landing program needed a spokesman, Scott
became that spokesman. He is remembered today as the voice of our
nation’s greatest achievement.
About his friend Art Robinson, Scott said:

I have come to know many men of excellence.

Scott was a longtime very good personal
friend and a strong supporter of our work. He personally campaigned for
my Dad when my Dad ran for Congress. One of the highlights of my Dad’s
first congressional campaign was when Scott Carpenter traveled the
district with us making several stops to give endorsement speeches.
Scott drew large crowds everywhere, and we had a wonderful time.
We would, of course, like to air this ad as widely as possible. It will
make a big difference in winning this election (and the winner of this
primary election will almost certainly win the general election because
this district is very conservative and overwhelmingly Republican).
Indications are that Art Robinson will probably win, but it could be
close and my Dad can do a lot of good if we win. Special interests and
lobbyists are doing their best to defeat him. This is not surprising. My
Dad is independent and a strong constitutional conservative.
