VMI Board of Visitors votes to move school’s Stonewall Jackson statue

The school’s superintendent previously announced in July no statues would be removed.

(Next they'll go for Virginia Mourning Her Dead as these idiots don't understand that when they give in on something, they will not stop. Just like the Confederate flag, as they are now after the S&S.)

After months of debate, VMI’s Board of Visitors voted Thursday afternoon to move the college’s Stonewall Jackson statue.

Director of Communications and Marketing, Bill Wyatt, said that VMI will move it from “the front of the historic barracks to an appropriate location, perhaps the Battlefield at New Market.” The administration will handle the orderly movement of the statue.

Back in July, the military college’s superintendent, Ret. Gen. J.H. Bindford Peay III, announced the decision to not remove any of the school’s Confederate statues.

The Board’s decision comes after Peay’s resignation on Monday after 17 years at the college.

  1. funny they announced it to wsls before they told us at the school. sold their sole for 20 million. what will they sell next year? they caved 100%, what have they left to trade? the alumni give 30 mil a year. so they traded 20 mil for 30mil, real smart. good luck with that.

  2. That is a very beautiful statue, uplifting, and gracious. It is strength-giving and inspiring.

Mr. Townsend, if you'd care to say, what do you think our beloved forebears would say to us, regarding the removal of their monuments?

    1. They would be both sad and furious that we did not defend their names.

  3. Thank you for saying that. I appreciate your taking the time to do so.

It seems to me in talking with others about the history of their families that those who know little of their own history and background are often dismissive of the history of our people, our faith, culture, country....

I will keep trying. I want our ancestors to be proud of us.

    1. You're welcome and please do so. Reminds me of *Jack Webb saying "Just the facts Ma'am just the facts."
