WW2 was a war of
hatred. No rules were followed. No basic decency and courtesy generally
shown by competing soldiers was shown. Men from the Waffen SS were
especially picked out for"special treatment" by both the Red Army as
well as the American soldiers. The Russians simply tortured and killed
any SS soldier they captured. The Americans did the same to a lesser
extent. And even after the war ended they were tortured and forced to
make confessions.

Of my 3 uncles that were in WWII only one was in Europe. He started off as 82nd Airbourn and got shot in the hip a few weeks after D-day. Once he somewhat recovered he was re-assigned to 3rd Army under Patton as a supply driver since he couldn't march very far. The unsaid order was that all SS where killed instead of being taken prisoner.
ReplyDeleteHe never talked about the war until I got back from the first Gulf War. He had a bottle of 1941 Brandy that he shared with me and told me of his war exploits. He never talked about them again.

disease. I guess it's pretty advanced. Mind you I only
read it in one site.

History is this way. None is spoken because it is not popular until decades later after the owning generation is gone. Only their diaries speak the truth. To me war is hell and history is a toss up.
