‘A Scorched Earth Senate’ - Editorial of The New York Sun | March 16, 2021

Via Hal

In respect of the filibuster, Senator Mitch McConnell certainly put the hay down where us mules can get to it. The Republican leader unloaded after a hapless Ben Cardin, senator of Maryland, while talking on Monday with Transportation Secretary Buttigieg, “accidentally” got caught by a hot-mic and, as the New York Post retailed the story, “outed plans to pass an infrastructure bill without Republican votes.”

Mr. McConnell responded today with a prediction of the kind rarely heard in the upper chamber. “Let me say this very clearly, for all 99 of my colleagues,” the Kentuckian rasped. “Nobody serving in this chamber can even begin — can even begin — to imagine what a completely scorched earth Senate would look like. None of us has even served one minute in a Senate that was completely drained of comity and consent.”

  1. Good morning, Brock.

Smoke and mirrors, old turkey neck has been colluding with the dems for decades, his priority is to maintain his advantage. Even if he leaves office early.

  2. As usual a nice conciliatory after action report Mitch, but you and you wife got their multi-millions so to quote the former Secretary of State Hillary C.: "At this point what does it matter".

  3. CTH had a good piece on McConnell's duck and dive. He's pretty sure McConnell is in cahoots with the Dems to get rid of the filibuster and then leave the senate. His co-conspirators in the repub party are pretty much being exposed and either retiring or like Thune and Murkowski they are trying to deny and hang on. Most won't be around after the next election.

  4. Well Dang! The Turd-dul, Really lit the Room on Fire! Wow! The FIRST PRIORITY that the Worthless Bunch of Republicans should be working on is Election Reforms in their respective States. INVESTIGATE, AUDIT the ENTIRE Voting System State by State, ARREST, TRY, CONVICT and SENTENCE ANY AND ALL GUILTY PERSONS WITHOUT the Chance of Parole, ENSURE and ENFORCE the Voter Laws, Require Voter IDs with Photographs, Get Rid of the Voting Machines, Overhaul the Voter Rolls with a super fine comb, ELIMINATE with EXTREME PREDJUDICE ANY AND ALL ILLEGAL VOTERS, OR VOTING, NO EXCUSES, NO WAIVERS, NO SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES, ELIMINATE MAIL-IN Ballots except for the Frailest of Citizens, Eliminate Vote Harvesting, Vote Buying, and ENFORCE THE FACT THAT ELECTION DAY ENDS WHEN THE POLS CLOSE. NO LATE DELIVERIES, NO WEEK LONG Counting, and or Recounting. SET UP a System of Tracking each and Every Vote via a Numbered Receipt from the moment the Vote is cast till it is no longer required to be tracked by law... SEAL UP THE ENTIRE SYSTEM TIGHTER THAN A FROGS BUTT... That, IMHAO, should be what they are working on Day and Night. Without these rather Obvious Voting System Improvements, EVERYTHING ELSE IS MOOT! Seal up the REPUBLICAN States and then Start working on the Citizenry of the Other States. Show them that it can be done. The Rest of the United States will Follow.
