Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Blasts American Airlines: ‘Texans Are Fed Up with Corporations that Don’t Share Our Values’

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) is “stunned” American Airlines issued a statement opposing an election integrity bill, Senate Bill 7, following passage early Thursday morning, as the CEO admittedly did not read the legislation.

“I am stunned that American Airlines would put out a statement saying ‘we are strongly opposed to this bill’ [Senate Bill 7],” the lieutenant governor said, “just minutes after their government relations representative called my office and admitted that neither he nor the American Airlines CEO had actually read the legislation.”

  1. AA has been a bully for a long time. They tried awfully hard and threw great gobs of money and negative press at trying to prevent Southwest from getting gates at airports across the country, including working over national and local politicians to do their bidding. They tried to deny SWA using Love Field (where SWA started) which is right there in Dallas. And AA tried to rig the fuel services so that AA paid a lower rate but other airlines paid a much higher rate (to subsidize AA). This even for airlines which were not in competition with AA. It might be disingenuous to say it seems that AA uses bankruptcy laws as if they are integral to a business model (since it seems many other airlines do the same) but there you are. AA has been trying to direct government policy for a very long time. And they have been sometimes brutal when they don't get their way.

Expect AA to run some scheme to cut on Gov. Abbott. That is, I would not be surprised if/when it happens.

  3. This is the direct result of corporation putting know nothing's with worthless liberal arts degrees on their boards of directors. First they go broke, then they get nails out with magic money (more debt for the tax payers) and then they demand to dictate public policy.
More were to big to fail crap.
