Colonial Pipeline Co. paid nearly $5 million to Eastern European hackers on Friday, contradicting reports earlier this week that the company had no intention of paying an extortion fee to help restore the country’s largest fuel pipeline, according to two people familiar with the transaction.

The company paid the hefty ransom in difficult-to-trace cryptocurrency within hours after the attack, underscoring the immense pressure faced by the Georgia-based operator to get gasoline and jet fuel flowing again to major cities along the Eastern Seaboard, those people said. A third person familiar with the situation said U.S. government officials are aware that Colonial made the payment.

  1. This is already being used to call for 'controls' on Bitcoin. They are claiming, wrongly from my understanding, that Bitcoin can't be traced and is 'used by criminals and terrorists' which is another like but hey, who's counting? The worst part is that was coming from a 'business man' who seems to have little or no understanding of God given rights, personal liberty, or government tyranny.

    Just say no.

Of course I won't speculate that the whole thing was an inside job to provide and excuse for that kind of idiocy or the who can be the
'biggest idiot award' after someone at the White House said if we drove electric cars it wouldn't be an issue. Although the whole thing is a bit convenient to say the least.

How long before someone at the White House claims that they were really upset because everyone hasn't had the vaccine and if we all agree to be human guinea pigs they'll turn the gas back on?

    Y'all have a nice day.

  3. Actually the ransom should be paid by the companies leadership and that should also be applied to cities and towns that are held for ransom. Soak the mayors and not the taxpayers or ratepayers. If the government gets hacked take it out of the paychecks of the administrative state that isn't taking care of business. So far it does seem none of them want to be held accountable. And count on the FBI for help? Good luck with that...they are still stuck on Russia, Russia, Russia even after the Mueller report.
