Congress Theatrics Saved Us Money!

View Image

Author ArchiveFridays with Erick Erickson 12.17.10

"Yesterday Congress descended into theatrics. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) decided to force the Senate to read the 2,000 page Omnibus appropriations bill. Expecting to be tied up until Saturday with the reading, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) yanked it, thereby saving the taxpayers billions. Instead, the Senate will work with a short continuing resolution.

On the House side, had you told me a year ago that the Democrats would vote to continue what they called the “failed policies of the Bush administration” I’d have never believed you. But sure enough, House Democrats voted to keep the Bush tax cuts in place for two more years.

A lot of conservatives, myself included, wanted to kill the tax compromise on the theory that we’d be in a stronger bargaining position next year. It was not, however, a hill to die on and I suspect no conservatives will try to take vengeance on the Republicans who voted for the deal. After all, it rendered Nancy Pelosi’s final moments as Speaker of the House into rank irony — Pelosi having to defend, support, and push through the House the tax cuts she spent nearly eight years opposing.

It made for a great feast of crow within the Democratic caucus"

DEMS PULL FAST ONE WITH FOOD-SAFETY BILL

View Image

GOP members protested using the continuing resolution as a piggyback ride for S. 510. House Rep. Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), the incoming Agriculture Committee chairman, slammed the Democrats for resorting to legislative tricks to pass what has become a bitterly contentious measure.

“This is the sort of nonsense that Americans rejected just a few weeks ago,” Lucas exclaimed during the debate.

The Demo-gogues And Dezinformatsia

Patriot Post

The Demo-gogues

"We didn't lose the election because of me. Our members do not accept that. So, I'm not looking back on this. They asked me to run, I'm running. We don't let the Republicans choose our leaders, and again, our members understand, they made me a target because I'm effective, politically and policy-wise."

--soon-to-be-former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

"The election was no ringing endorsement of Republicans. We do not accept their version of what this election means. It's not about rejecting what President Obama has done. It didn't go fast enough to create jobs. That's what it's about."

--Nancy Pelosi

Dezinformatsia

Historic defeat: "Nancy Pelosi did two things for which she will go down in history. She was an incredibly effective majority leader when, and speaker, there was an opposition president. She helped make the majority. And when she was in the majority, she was the hammer that got through President Obama's agenda and sent it to the Senate. However, that is a completely different role than what she wants to do now. For which, I think she's kind of like Winston Churchill. I mean, she accomplished historic things for the Democrats, and they should be sending her off in a blaze of glory and adjusting for this new regime."
--Fox News Sunday and NPR's Mara Liasson
("Her greatest accomplishment was that she turned the majority into the minority.")

Lee, Rubio: GOP In 'Lockstep' With Tea Party

“I think it’s a big mistake,” he said, “because the worst thing you can do in the midst of the greatest recession in a generation is to increase taxes. When you increase taxes you discourage investment, and investment is what’s necessary to increase jobs. If we increase taxes right, now we’re going to kill jobs. And we can’t afford to do that.”

"Useful Idiots"

"This is not a threat. This is not a prediction. This is not a call to action. It is settled history that has been repeated many times. It has all happened before and will happen again. This time, it will happen to you.

You're on the menu too-you're just last on the list."

Tea Party, GOP Win Control Of 'America's Heartland'

"Turbocharged by the tea-party, Republicans scored a stunning landslide Tuesday, knocking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi off her political throne in a midterm election upheaval that may ultimately add up to the biggest GOP (S/B Tea Party) wave in modern electoral history"

Now, the Tea Party shall not compromise until we have reversed course 100% back to our Founder's Republic, period. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Anything else is unacceptable.

JONES URGES CONGRESS TO EXPEDITE AIR CARGO SAFETY BILL

WASHINGTON, D.C.Today U.S. Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) encouraged his fellow Members of Congress to expedite H.R. 6275, the Air Cargo Security Act of 2010. Congressman Jones is one of two cosponsors of the bill, which was introduced in September of this year by Rep. Edward Markey (MA-7). The bill aims to amend title 49 of the United States code to improve air cargo security. Currently the bill sits in committee for a length of time to be determined by Speaker Nancy Pelosi..

“In light of today’s security threat involving cargo planes, the importance of this bill has become very apparent,” said Jones. “We must be proactive when it comes to homeland security and I urge Speaker Pelosi to move forward with this imperative piece of legislation.”

The Air Cargo Security Act of 2010 states that through the Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration) each airport in the United States that serves passengers will establish and operate Federal air cargo screening centers for the screening of cargo transported on passenger aircraft operated by an air carrier or foreign air carrier in air transportation or intrastate air transportation.

Tea Party To The Rescue

"Two central facts give shape to the historic 2010 election. The first is not understood by Republicans, and the second not admitted by Democrats.

The first: the tea party is not a "threat" to the Republican Party, the tea party saved the Republican Party. In a broad sense, the tea party rescued it from being the fat, unhappy, querulous creature it had become, a party that didn't remember anymore why it existed, or what its historical purpose was. The tea party, with its energy and earnestness, restored the GOP to itself."

The Thrill Is Gone

"Barack: save your town halls. P-Diddy: save your Vote or Die. MTV: save your Choose or Lose, because the thrill is gone."

'Twas The Night Before Elections

'Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the others
Who had not worked a day!

He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink

He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!

'On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi'
He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn't stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DON'T WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND THERE & VOTE!
