Historian reviews NC's 'Civil War' death count
"The time has come to get it right," said Josh Howard, a research historian with the Office of Archives and History in Raleigh. "Nobody has gone through man by man looking for the deaths."
Howard is reviewing the military records of every Tar Heel who served in the 1861-65 conflict, as the state prepares to mark its sesquicentennial.'
While I welcome any further study of the War, I question the assumption Mr Howard makes about the generally accepted estimate. He seems to have already reached a conclusion before the study is done.

“Localism: Effective Political Activism at Home”
(a facilitated panel-discussion)
11AM-3PM
Saturday, 18 September 2010,
Mayflower Seafood Restaurant, 1160 Huffman Mill Road
Burlington, North Carolina
Our September Conference will provide a panel-facilitated discussion on practical involvement in local political initiatives, and best-practices for inserting convincing traditional conservative arguments into debates. All towns across North Carolina have their Tea Party and assorted conservative groups, we encourage members to get involved locally to present ideas which frame the debate in clear, true Constitutional terms.
From stressing the importance of State sovereignty and the intent of the Tenth Amendment, to watering the seeds of self-determination for North Carolinians in the face of a despotic nationalist regime, we must first be active locally.
Join us for an inspiring day of dialogue, learning and re-energizing ourselves.
Directions:
Take Exit 141 off I-40/85 and turn West away from town (left if you are coming from Raleigh, right if you are coming from Greensboro). The Mayflower is located on the left just beyond the interstate overpass and beside the Kangaroo gas station.
