Proposed Firearms Ordinance Hearing

Allen L. Mims, Jr., Chairman
Johnston County Board of Commissioners

Proposed Johnston County Firearm Ordinance

As you are aware, the Johnston County Board of Commissioners was scheduled to hold a public hearing on January 3, 2011 at our 6:00pm meeting to review and discuss the adoption of a proposed firearm ordinance. I, as well as my fellow Board members, have received several communications over the last week from concerned citizens regarding the implementation of such an ordinance. In light of these concerns, the Board and I have decided to develop a workgroup, consisting of Commissioner, staff and citizen representatives, who will review the proposed firearm ordinance, address the citizen concerns and develop a revised ordinance that is mutually acceptable among us all.

Currently the workgroup will be comprised of the following members, with the possible addition of a couple more individuals:

Allen L. Mims, Jr. – Chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners

Jeffrey P. Carver – Vice Chairman of the Johnston County Board of Commissioners

Rick J. Hester – County Manager

Steve Bizzell – Sheriff

Berry Gray – Planning Director

Citizens: Jeff Lawrence, Mike Walters, Jake McAllister, Stephen Reeves, Jonathan Parker and Todd Blackburn

Therefore, the public hearing scheduled for January 3, 2011 has been postponed until further notice. Upon receipt of a revised ordinance from the workgroup, we shall re-advertise the date and time of the public hearing.

Thank you.

Georgia Carry.Org Sticker = Special Treatment At Traffic Stop

"This is me getting stopped by Sandy Springs PD for speeding. The second thing the officer asked me, after asking for my license, was if I had any firearms. I responded that I was choosing to exercise my right to remain silent on that question. That answer prompted the officer to have me get out of the car for a pat down. The officer told me that the reason for his question (about firearms) was because I had a 'right to carry' sticker on my car. Yes, he actually said that."

Justice Stephen Breyer, The Master's Face

Go to fullsize image
Pompous Ass
==============
"Do we really need any further justification for revolt than the interview on FOX News with Justice Stephen Breyer? The condescension was thick in the air of one who rules, yet denies to rule; one who snarkily suggests that if one wants a weapon to shoot at targets one might go to Maryland on the subway. He did not reveal, in all his brilliance, that by possessing a handgun in Washington DC one was already breaking the law, carrying it on the subway concealed if not now, soon will be against the law and presumably captured by one of Janet Napolitano's porno scanners." GOA to Congress: Read the Constitution!

In January, the new Congress will be sworn in, and each member will swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Judging by how often Congress operates outside the bounds of the Constitution, one wonders if the members actually ever read our most important founding document.

If there is a mandate for the Congress coming out of the 2010 elections, it is that the Constitution must be made relevant again. And what better way to begin the One Hundred Twelfth Congress than to have read aloud, in both the House and Senate, the Constitution in its entirety.

The House and Senate will waste hours congratulating sports teams, naming post offices, and various other meaningless tasks. Even worse, it will spend much more time doing things for which it has absolutely no constitutional authority.

The purpose of this petition is clear and obvious. The Congress must be reminded that this is a nation of laws, and there is a law that governs what the Congress is empowered to do -- either to justify their actions or to demonstrate when they are unlawfully operating beyond their bounds, no matter how well-intentioned.

If you believe that the Constitution matters in the 21st century, and if you agree that it would be time well spent for the Congress to read the Constitution, then please SIGN THE PETITION.

Obviously, in petitioning our government, the people must speak with numbers on their side. Just like it's only one vote per person at the ballot box, but each vote counts and any vote can make the difference, so it is that every signature on this petition counts. So please help get the word out. Spread the petition effort far and wide -- family, friends, churches, gun clubs, Facebook, e-mail lists, internet forums, your own website or blog, radio shows... whatever you think might result in even one additional signature. Thank you.

A Woman's Perfect Concealed Carry Holster

"Naturally Concealed is a homebased business brought into being by one woman's desire to find a comfortable, concealable, discreet handgun holster that could be worn under dress clothes as easily as it could be worn under every day work, play, or exercise clothes. After coming up with what I believe to be the perfect concealed carry option, I decided to share it with other women looking for a comfortable, wearable holster."

Gun Owners of America was able to help elect 5 new pro-gun members to the United States Senate and more than 40 pro-gunners to the House of Representatives!

AND YOU MADE IT POSSIBLE. Thank you.

In an election where we were the ONLY NATIONAL GUN GROUP to help many of these candidates, it highlights just how critical the gun issue is to Americans, and how important you were to those victories.

GOA could not have done the work without the support of our members -- and now, more than ever, we need your help to double or even triple our membership before 2012!!!

Why? Because 2012 will be a presidential election year and the radical left wing in America will once again be "all in" for Barack Obama.

If they turn out their forces to help Obama win re-election, those voters will translate down to votes for anti-gun members of Congress again, just as they did in 2008.

We can't let that happen without a fight.

Gun Owners of America and GOA Political Victory Fund used limited resources this year to make great gains to protect the Second Amendment. If you can help us grow now, by alerting your family, friends and neighbors, to the work of GOA and the need for them to become members, we will be able to win additional races in 2012!

Believe me, the anti-gun left in this nation has not given up. They see the 2010 election as a hiccup, not the end of the battle or the war. And we can't look at it that way either.

The bottom line in elections is that there is strength in numbers, and if GOA doubles in size NOW, we can multiply what we did this year by several times. That is real "bang for the buck."

With our limited resources this year, we were able to travel around the country giving the voting records of the pro-gun and anti-gun candidates to their voters. We were able to make thousands of phone calls directly to pro-gun voters in the target districts. We were able to send mailings and e-mail alerts to our members to ask them to volunteer in key races.

And the payoff is those 5 new Senators and over 40 members of the House I mentioned above.

But our work is far from over!

Anti-gun Harry Reid is still in control as the Majority Leader of the United States Senate. Nancy Pelosi still wields her power in the House.

AND BARACK OBAMA IS STILL PRESIDENT!

As I said, we cannot sit back now and think we won the war. We won the first battle over the Obama Administration and the radical left who still hold the leadership in the Senate.

That's why Gun Owners of America needs you.

There is a reason why Congressman Ron Paul calls GOA the only "no compromise gun lobby in Washington."

There is a reason why Senator Tom Coburn calls GOA the "real gun lobby in Washington D.C."

And that reason is YOU!

Our members help put pressure on Congress every time we send one of our alerts asking you to contact your representatives about gun legislation.

When our lobbyists hit the halls of Congress and tell members we are opposed or supportive of a bill, they know our membership will also let them know WE ARE ALL WATCHING HOW THEY VOTE.

Just think how much more effective we can be if we double or triple our membership in the next 12 months!

2010 has been the "easy year" when it comes to election gains. We went out and picked the "low-hanging fruit."

The races in 2012 will be for tougher districts, tougher candidates and we'll also be fighting the Obama factor -- where the radical left-wing will be pouring huge amounts of money and manpower to help make him a two-term president.

So, if you've just sat back to enjoy the many victories of November 2nd, DON'T!

WE NEED YOU!

You are our best salesperson to tell our story to your friends, neighbors and everyone you communicate with around the country.

Tell them that for a small membership donation of $20 or $30, they can be a major factor in not only stopping anti-gun laws... they can be part of the organization that is fighting to repeal the anti-gun laws already on the books.

I don't care if they are hunters, shooters, collectors or just people who understand that the Second Amendment is critical to all our other freedoms, we need them as members of GOA.

And if they sign up to receive our GOA e-mail alerts, they can be part of our lobbying team of people all over the country who call, write and e-mail our elected leaders on important gun issues.

GOA and our members have stood alone many times when others compromised, or said legislation or Presidential appointments could not be stopped -- and we have proved the naysayers wrong.

WE WILL NOT COMPROMISE -- your rights are not "bargaining chips" to be used at the negotiating table, and we will never treat them as such.

Don't read this Alert and do nothing. Pass it on to everyone you know and ask them to join Gun Owners of America now by going to:

http://www.gunowners.org/ordergoamem.htm

It will make a huge difference in the outcome of the 2012 elections and the future of this nation. Thank you.

Brian Aitken's Mistake

A New Jersey man gets seven years for being a responsible gun owner.

"Sue Aitken called the police because she was worried about her son, Brian. She now lives with the guilt of knowing that her phone call is the reason Brian spent his 27th birthday in a New Jersey prison last month. If the state gets its way, he will be there for the next seven years."

Snipers In Orange Vests

"A funny set coincidences came to mind today. Did you know that white tail and mule deer are almost the same weight as a typical American human? Some are a little heavier, most have slightly tougher hide, but the weight differences are minor. In the US, hunters kill about 3,000,000 deer every year.

Did you know that most police snipers use Remington 700 bolt action rifle, the same model typically used by deer hunters? Most other makes and models of police sniper rifles are also similar to hunting guns, the main difference being barrel weight and the optic magnification. Typical calibers range from .223 to .300 Win Mag with .308 being most common, slightly more powerful than a typical round for deer deer and slightly less powerful than a typical round for elk.

Police snipers very rarely take shots at ranges over 100 yards, with 60 being closer to average. Deer hunters often fire out to 200 yards, often with good accuracy. About 11,000,000 Americans are considered deer hunters on the basis of deer tag purchases, more have the equipment and the skills typical of deer hunters but do not hunt at this time.

With those facts, is it any wonder that sitting and aspiring politicians are careful to claim that they 'don't want to ban anybody's deer rifle'. Gun owners, including hunters, vote. At present, they vote with paper and touch screens."
