Confederate monument issue goes to court

Via SHNV

The North Carolina United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Historic Preservation Action Committee (HPAC) will go head-to-head in court Monday morning over the Reidsville Confederate Monument.

HPAC filed lawsuits against the City of Reidsville, the UDC, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources (NCDCR) in April.

The issue began one year ago this Wednesday, when Mark Anthony Vincent of Greensboro drove his company’s vehicle into the monument. The solider on top of the monument was knocked off its pedestal and into Vincent’s van. The solider shattered and his head became embedded in the vehicle. It was later removed and placed in the Reidsville Public Works building for safekeeping.

HPAC spokesperson Ira Tilley explained in April the rationale behind the lawsuits and said, “Unfortunately, you know, the city took the monument down without going through the proper channels, which would have been to contact NCDCR and NCDOT,” Tilley said. “We’re having to bring the NCDCR and DOT into this because they ruled (in a declaratory ruling filed Dec. 7) we have no standing.”

In the same interview in April, Tilley said the UDC was being sued because, “she is maintaining, she meaning Ms. (Aileen) Ezell (President of the state UDC). maintains for some reason she thinks, I know partly why, Mr. (Michael) Pearce (Reidsville’s city manager) told her that they (the UDC) own the monument, but she believes in her heart for some reason that they own all the monuments in North Carolina and they don’t,” Tilley said. “It’s public property, which is why we’re having to include them.”

Virginia Flaggers Update 5-21-2012

Via Susan

Saturday morning, May 19th, found the Virginia Flaggers gathered on the Boulevard for a special day of flagging. There was a parade held, to honor our veterans, and the reviewing stand was right in front of the VMFA .

This young man walked up to us and showed us his backpack that had been in combat with him. On it was pinned a Confederate flag. He said he had it on there the whole time he was in Iraq. He asked to take a picture with our flag.

By the time the parade stepped off, a good crowd had gathered! The folks were OVERWHELMINGLY supportive and we ran out of literature...TWICE and had to go back to our vehicles for more!

The parade was GREAT and the participants were very friendly to us, waving and thanking us for being there, as we thanked them for their service.

Kudos to the City of Richmond for putting on this parade to welcome home returning vets and thank those who served before them. It gave us a GREAT opportunity to talk to folks about how the VMFA had DISHONORED American Vets by removing the Battle Flag from the Confederate War Memorial/Pelham Chapel.

RETURN the flags! RESTORE the honor!

After lunch, we headed over to Gaines Mill battlefield, where The Virginia Flaggers attended the dedication of the Hood's Texas Brigade Monument. It was a beautiful, breezy afternoon and a VERY Confederate event. :)

Hats off to the Hood's Texas Brigade Association Re-Activated, for securing and placing the monument, and the Richmond Battlefield Association for providing the land, after the National Park Service refused to allow its placement on National Park land at Gaines Mill. Boy Scouts from the Stonewall Jackson Council provided assistance to visitors and represented their Council well! The Cap. William Latane Color Guard, SCV, presented the colors, and a plane flew overhead before the ceremony, sponsored by 10 TX businessmen, with a message for participants.

We received messages and phone calls from folks ALL OVER RICHMOND who saw the banner plane and wanted to know if the Va Flaggers had anything to do with it! What a GREAT message to be seen flying over the Capitol of the Confederacy, especially in light of the decidedly anti-Confederate Sesquicentennial commemoration that Richmond has been subject to thus far.

A beautiful ceremony, and a lasting tribute to the men of Hood's Texas Brigade. LEST WE FORGET!!

Little did we know...that while we were at Gaines Mill, one of our Flaggers was scoring a HUGE victory in Haralson County, GA....

Haralson County, GA, Courthouse. 1856 US flag inside. Billy Bearden is offended!

So, in the county seat in Buchanan, Billy says... don't be all one sided! Share some Confederate History, too!

So, Billy asks and receives permission to hang a Confederate Flag inside...FOREVER!!!!

The Transatlantic Slave Trade of England and New England

The author below cites the report of the Marine Research Society of Salem, Massachusetts for the origin and perpetuation of African slavery in North America. This raises the important question: How does the American South receive the blame for African slavery in North America, yet it had nothing to do with its introduction and perpetuation? It is an irony of history that the New England States which profited handsomely from the slave trade and perpetuation of African slavery would later prosecute a war for the extinction of what they had themselves wrought.

Bernhard Thuersam, Chairman
North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial Commission
www.ncwbts150.com
"The Official Website of the North Carolina WBTS Sesquicentennial"

The Transatlantic Slave Trade of England and New England:

“In the library of the State College of Raleigh, N.C., there is a notable book of some three hundred and fifty pages and forty-nine illustrations – the fifteenth publication of the Marine Research Society, of Salem, Mass., and published in Vermont – the title being: “Slave Ships and Slaving.”

The introduction was written by a British Navy officer, and the text is by George F. Dow. Within ten years after the discovery of America the Spaniards began the transport of Africans to work in their possessions, and all the maritime nations of Europe followed their example; and during the next two hundred and fifty years the English transported as many as all the countries put together.

They began in Queen Elizabeth’s time, kept is up in the next reign, and, in 1662, the Duke of York undertook to transport to the British Colonies three thousand slaves every year. Ten years later the King himself became interested and, under contract, England got from Spain the exclusive right to supply the Spanish colonies; and the King of England and the King of Spain each received one fourth of the profits.

Between 1680-1688 England had two hundred and forty-nine slave ships; from 1713, for twenty years, 15,000 slaves were annually brought to America. In 1786, England brought over 97,000 slaves. During eleven years, 1783-93, Liverpool owned eight hundred and seventy-eight vessels in this trade, and imported many thousands of slavers in the West Indies. They were worth some 15,000,000 pounds of that period; equal to about $150,000,000 now.

While Liverpool was the chief port for this trade, Bristol was a close second. Then, over here, New England was not slow. Massachusetts started in 1638. However, Rhode Island became the rival of Liverpool. Ten pages of this volume are devoted to the operations of Rhode Island. There nearly every one was interested…[and by] 1750, “Rum was the chief manufacture of New England.” About 15,000 hogsheads of molasses were annually converted into rum in Massachusetts alone. The number of stills in operation was almost beyond belief [and] in Newport there were no less than twenty-two.”

With rum they purchased Negroes in Africa; these were exchanged for molasses in the Caribbean Islands and South American, and the molasses was brought to the New England stills; and so the profitable business was carried on in a circle to the extent beyond ordinary imagination!

It was the very basis of New England’s prosperity. At Newport, Bristol and Providence, some of the most respectable and wealthy merchants were engaged in the trade. Even preachers and philanthropists were advocates. “One elder, whose ventures in slaving had usually turned out well, always returned thanks on the Sunday following the arrival of a slaver that the Africans could enjoy the blessing of a Gospel dispensation.”

The Southern colonies had no ships, nor any molasses. They were not in the trade. However, the British Slaving Company, in which the King of England was partner and in duty bound to supply the needs of the colonies as particularly required by Good Queen Anne. The Colonies were forbidden to manufacture, and their products were required to be shipped to England, where they were exchanged for British goods. So the more slaves making products, the more goods the Colonies bought in England.

At length Virginia forbade any more importation [of slaves] but the King annulled that Virginia law. In Jefferson’s draught of the Declaration of Independence he denounced the King most severely for annulling these prohibitions. However, in 1774, importations [of slaves] were forbidden by the people of North and South Carolina, and there were no importations until 1803, when South Carolina opened her ports for four years.

Great Britain abolished the [slave] trade in 1807, just as the Congress of the United States did. After a few years, other countries followed our example: Spain in 1820, Portugal in 1830; but the trade between Portuguese Africa and Brazil did not cease until Brazil, in 1888, put a stop to it.

The Southern Colonies had no ships engaged in this trade, nor any molasses or rum, but, as the matter worked out, those States were the greatest sufferers in the end. Since 1800, the labor of Africans in the South have largely supplied the world with cotton.

That this volume was prepared by the Marine Research Society of Salem, Mass., speaks well for New England, and it should be in every library in the South.”

Queen Anne's County votes to make English the official language

On May 8th, the Queen Anne's County Commissioners voted 4-1 in support of a bill to making English the official language of the county government.

Following the vote, U.S. English Chairman Mauro E. Mujica released the following statement:

"With the passage of Ordinance 12-06, representatives in Queen Anne's County have given non-English speakers the best possible advice to help them achieve success: become fluent in the English language. In the State of Maryland, more than 340,000 residents speak English less than very well, meaning they likely have difficulty carrying on more than a basic conversation in English. Declaring English the official language of the county does not place a limit on the language a citizen may speak, but it sends the message that English is the key to a more prosperous life in America."

In February, representatives in Frederick County, Maryland voted to pass a similar Official English bill. Unfortunately, nineteen states, including Maryland, have yet to pass Official English on a state level. U.S. English continues to work on a daily basis with county, state and federal lawmakers in an effort to encourage them to pass unifying legislation to declare English the official language.

But, we cannot do it without your help! Please, take a moment to send a pre-written letter to your state representative to express your support for Official English across the state. Or, if you are able, visit our Donation Center to make a financial contribution to help our cause.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support. We will keep you informed on the latest news as we continue to work to make English the official language of the United States!

Mississippi prison riot leaves guard dead, 8 hurt

Via Billy

The 2,567-bed prison in Natchez houses adult male illegal immigrants for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

A guard was killed and, at one point, hostages were taken during a riot at a Mississippi prison that holds illegal immigrants, authorities said. The Sunday riot at the privately run Adams County Correctional Center in southwest Mississippi began around 2:40 p.m. CDT and involved dozens of inmates before it was brought under control that night.

Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield told the Natchez Democrat that 15 employees were freed at one time during the uprising by opening a fence and protecting the route with guns. The sheriff said in a statement early Monday that there were at least two dozen hostages being held at one time.

Adams County Coroner James Lee confirmed that a guard died, but said he could not provide any other details until the correctional officer's family was notified. In addition to the guard who was killed, five other correctional officers and three inmates were injured.

Tolerating Evil: Obama’s Anti-Biblical Presidency

Mike Scruggs

The Obama administration often makes indiscriminate use of the appealing word “tolerance” to underscore its philosophy and moral authority. But on September 16, 2009, President Obama appointed Chai Feldblum Commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Feldblum believes that society should “not tolerate” any “private beliefs” including, of course, religious beliefs that might affect homosexual “equality.” This was just another notch in the President’s anti-Christian agenda, which we noted in last week’s article is also anti-Jewish, anti-Biblical, and anti-Israel. Thus we can see that when the Obama administration uses the word “tolerance,” it does not necessarily have in mind a concept wholesome for individuals or a blessing to society. In Feldblums case, it means that holding Biblical views on homosexuality could be a “thought-crime.” There is hardly a more intolerant and nightmarish totalitarian concept.

President Obama is creating an upside-down America in which good is called evil, and evil is called good. In October 2011, the Obama administration discontinued federal grants to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops programs that aid victims of human trafficking because the Catholic Church is anti-abortion.

In 1934, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) erected a wooden cross in the Mohave Desert about 15 miles off Interstate 15 in California to commemorate those who died in World War I. This was located on Sunrise Rock in the Mojave National Preserve. It gradually became a symbol for all American\ war-dead. The cross was the subject of a legal case in 2001, however, and a district court ruled that the cross violated the establishment clause of the First Amendment. This was affirmed by the Ninth District Court of Appeals in 2004. Congress attempted several legislative moves to reverse this decision, including transferring ownership to a private veteran’s home. The Supreme Court ruled on April 28, 2010 that the cross could stand. But in January 2011, the Obama administration refused to transfer the cross to private ownership as passed by Congress and refused to resurrect the cross as ordered by the Supreme Court. (Sadly, the cross was recently stolen.) So once more we have an extraordinarily anti-Christian action by the Obama administration that even defies Congress and the Supreme Court.

In November of 2011, President Obama opposed the inclusion of President Franklin Roosevelt’s D-Day Prayer in the World War II Memorial. In November 2011, he began avoiding any references to religion in his Thanksgiving speeches.

Also in 2011, the Air Force was ordered to stop teaching the Just War Doctrine introduced by Saint Augustine in the third century AD. Augustine’s Biblically based war doctrine is the core of Geneva Convention regulation on the conduct of war including the treatment of civilians and prisoners. But the Obama administration will no longer include any Christian contribution to U.S. philosophy or regulations governing the conduct of war and the treatment of noncombatants.. Thus we will be drifting back to a warfare philosophy allowing torture and atrocities against civilians and prisoners of war because Augustine was a Christian. I suppose our solders, seamen, and airmen will now be studying Muslim War Theory. Last week we showed how President Obama consistently favors Islam over any strain of orthodox Christianity. Obama’s Muslim advisors even block Middle Eastern Christians access to the White House.

Meanwhile Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, and Coast Guard chaplains have been ordered not to pray in the name of Jesus at official or public meetings.

If the United States must engage in war, will the Lord of Hosts be on our side?

Those who preach a “Christian” tolerance without discrimination or discernment might be surprised to learn what Jesus told the Church at Thyatira: “But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality…” (Revelation 2: 20)

The Russian writer Alexandr Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008), in his book, Gulag Archipelago, published in the West in 1973, described his life in the Soviet forced labor camp system and the oppression of the Russian people under Soviet Communism. At one point in the book he speaks of a conversation of a small group of prisoners. One asked, “Why has all this happened to us”? An older man responded, “Because we have forgotten God.”

The Bible often speaks of the “Fear of God” and “men who do not fear God.” Who are those who have no fear of God? They are those who deny or have forgotten that violating God’s laws must eventually have consequences. Are we as a nation now so foolish as to test God’s authority and patience? There is an election in November.

Pizza delivery man killed for the fun of it in St. Louis, MO

A group of blacks thug murdered a white twenty year old pizza delivery man for the fun of it. Politically correct media calls it “attempted robbery” and censors race. The victim is a Bosnian (Bosnia-Herzegovina). The murder took place in a 97% black census track near Martin Luther King Dr.

Police believe that the perps ordered a pizza to a neighbors’ address. When the victim arrived, they shot him while he was still sitting in his car. The perps then left. A police officer on duty later spotted the victims car drifting across the middle of the road. The driver was unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head. He later died at the hospital.

The murder appears to be a racially motivated thrill killing.
