Tolerating Evil: Obama’s Anti-Biblical Presidency

Mike Scruggs

The Obama administration often makes indiscriminate use of the appealing word “tolerance” to underscore its philosophy and moral authority. But on September 16, 2009, President Obama appointed Chai Feldblum Commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Feldblum believes that society should “not tolerate” any “private beliefs” including, of course, religious beliefs that might affect homosexual “equality.” This was just another notch in the President’s anti-Christian agenda, which we noted in last week’s article is also anti-Jewish, anti-Biblical, and anti-Israel. Thus we can see that when the Obama administration uses the word “tolerance,” it does not necessarily have in mind a concept wholesome for individuals or a blessing to society. In Feldblums case, it means that holding Biblical views on homosexuality could be a “thought-crime.” There is hardly a more intolerant and nightmarish totalitarian concept.

President Obama is creating an upside-down America in which good is called evil, and evil is called good. In October 2011, the Obama administration discontinued federal grants to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops programs that aid victims of human trafficking because the Catholic Church is anti-abortion.

In 1934, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) erected a wooden cross in the Mohave Desert about 15 miles off Interstate 15 in California to commemorate those who died in World War I. This was located on Sunrise Rock in the Mojave National Preserve. It gradually became a symbol for all American\ war-dead. The cross was the subject of a legal case in 2001, however, and a district court ruled that the cross violated the establishment clause of the First Amendment. This was affirmed by the Ninth District Court of Appeals in 2004. Congress attempted several legislative moves to reverse this decision, including transferring ownership to a private veteran’s home. The Supreme Court ruled on April 28, 2010 that the cross could stand. But in January 2011, the Obama administration refused to transfer the cross to private ownership as passed by Congress and refused to resurrect the cross as ordered by the Supreme Court. (Sadly, the cross was recently stolen.) So once more we have an extraordinarily anti-Christian action by the Obama administration that even defies Congress and the Supreme Court.

In November of 2011, President Obama opposed the inclusion of President Franklin Roosevelt’s D-Day Prayer in the World War II Memorial. In November 2011, he began avoiding any references to religion in his Thanksgiving speeches.

Also in 2011, the Air Force was ordered to stop teaching the Just War Doctrine introduced by Saint Augustine in the third century AD. Augustine’s Biblically based war doctrine is the core of Geneva Convention regulation on the conduct of war including the treatment of civilians and prisoners. But the Obama administration will no longer include any Christian contribution to U.S. philosophy or regulations governing the conduct of war and the treatment of noncombatants.. Thus we will be drifting back to a warfare philosophy allowing torture and atrocities against civilians and prisoners of war because Augustine was a Christian. I suppose our solders, seamen, and airmen will now be studying Muslim War Theory. Last week we showed how President Obama consistently favors Islam over any strain of orthodox Christianity. Obama’s Muslim advisors even block Middle Eastern Christians access to the White House.

Meanwhile Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, and Coast Guard chaplains have been ordered not to pray in the name of Jesus at official or public meetings.

If the United States must engage in war, will the Lord of Hosts be on our side?

Those who preach a “Christian” tolerance without discrimination or discernment might be surprised to learn what Jesus told the Church at Thyatira: “But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality…” (Revelation 2: 20)

The Russian writer Alexandr Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008), in his book, Gulag Archipelago, published in the West in 1973, described his life in the Soviet forced labor camp system and the oppression of the Russian people under Soviet Communism. At one point in the book he speaks of a conversation of a small group of prisoners. One asked, “Why has all this happened to us”? An older man responded, “Because we have forgotten God.”

The Bible often speaks of the “Fear of God” and “men who do not fear God.” Who are those who have no fear of God? They are those who deny or have forgotten that violating God’s laws must eventually have consequences. Are we as a nation now so foolish as to test God’s authority and patience? There is an election in November.
