Gen. Dempsey: If Women Can’t Meet Military Standard, Pentagon Will Ask ‘Does It Really Have to Be That High?’

Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Thursday that with women now eligible to fill combat roles in the military, commanders must justify why any woman might be excluded – and, if women can’t meet any unit’s standard, the Pentagon will ask: “Does it really have to be that high?”

Dempsey’s comments came at a Pentagon news conference with Defense Sec. Leon Panetta Thursday, announcing the shift in Defense Department policy opening up all combat positions to women.

Dempsey, who is at the pinnacle of the military’s top brass, was asked by a reporter: “You indicated that -- well, at least it sounds like that there may be certain combat operational forays that women might be excluded from still. I mean, what would be the reasons for that? What sorts of operations?”

Dempsey replied: “No, I wouldn't put it in terms of operations, Jim. What I would say is that, as we look at the requirements for a spectrum of conflict, not just COIN, counterinsurgency, we really need to have standards that apply across all of those.”

Rahm Emanuel to Bully Banks Into Cutting Off Gun Companies

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the guy in charge of the gun controlled murder capitol of America, is planning to pressure banks into cutting off their business with firearms manufactures according to POLITICO:

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, moving to take a lead role in the gun control debate, is turning up the pressure on banks that do business with firearms manufacturers.

Emanuel is sending letters to two major financial institutions, TD Bank and Bank of America, which offer lines of credit to gun makers suggesting that they stop lending money to the manufacturers if they don’t come out for new gun restrictions.

“TD Bank currently aids the gun manufacturing industry through a $60 million revolving line of credit with Smith & Wesson, a gun manufacturer that produces the AR-15 — an assault weapon that was used by James Holmes to kill 12 people and wound 58 in a crowded movie theater in Aurora,” Emanuel’s missive to TD CEO Bharat Masrani states.

“I ask you to use your influence to push this company to find common ground with the vast majority of Americans who support a military weapons and ammunition ban and comprehensive background checks.”

Emanuel sent a similarly worded letter to Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, a bank that does business with Sturm, Ruger & Co.

“Doing business with gun manufacturers might benefit the banks’ bottom line, but they put our police officers, our children and our communities at risk,” said the mayor.

This is astounding. Emanuel is using the power of his office with the backing of the White House agenda to not only bully private industries but to eventually kill them off. As Dianne Feinstein said yesterday, the goal is to "dry up the supply of these weapons over time."

Wis. sheriff urges citizens to get gun training

 

A sheriff who released a radio ad urging Milwaukee-area residents to learn to handle firearms so they can defend themselves while waiting for police said Friday that law enforcement cutbacks have changed the way police can respond to crime.

In the 30-second commercial, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. says personal safety is no longer a spectator sport.

"I need you in the game," he says.

"With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option," he adds. "You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. ...
Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there."

NC: Great white shark off Ocracoke...in the sound!

Think about this the next time you have a notion to go swimming at the beach…

A 16-foot long Great White Shark's tracking beacon shows the fish made a visit to Eastern Carolina's Pamlico Sound Monday afternoon. The shark's beacon pinged right off the shore of Ocracoke Island. The shark crossed through the Ocracoke Inlet Monday afternoon and then left by the same route Monday evening.

The OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker showed Monday afternoon that "Mary Lee" was off the northwest part of Ocracoke Island. "Mary Lee" is described as a 16-foot long mature female Great White Shark weighing 3,456 pounds. She was tagged on September 17, 2012.

Later Monday evening, "Mary Lee's" tracking device pinged once again, showing the great white was out of the Pamlico Sound and heading north toward Cape Hatteras. Tuesday afternoon, her location remained off the shores of the Outer Banks.

"Mary Lee" was tracked up the coast of North Carolina over the weekend, passing off of Emerald Isle in the early morning hours of Sunday and passing off Beaufort Sunday afternoon.

The 160^th  Special Operations Aviation Regiment headquartered at Fort Campbell Kentucky will be doing a training operation utilizing helicopters on Monday evening January 28^th and Tuesday evening January 29^th at the Nashville Expo Center/Tennessee State Fairgrounds around the Brown’s Creek flood plain area. 

We wanted to notify you in order to avoid any concerns that an emergency situation was occurring in the neighborhood.  The operation is to train members of the unit in tactics they would use in the event of an urban area deployment.  It should begin around 8:00 p.m. AND LAST ABOUT AN HOUR.
