City looks to make gun ownership mandatory

 http://conservativeanimal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/CITYGUNZZ-260x194.jpg

Every homeowner in a local town could soon have to own a gun or break the law. It's a controversial new plan for the city of Nelson.

Leaders told Channel 2's John Bachman the reason they need the law is because the city straddles Cherokee county to the south and Pickens County to the north.

That, they said, can lead to slower response times.

One police officer patrols Nelson, Georgia for eight hours during the day. That leaves 16 hours overnight when the city is basically unguarded.

"When he's not here we rely on county sheriffs--however it takes a while for them to get here," said Nelson City Councilman Duane Cronic.

That's why Cronic proposed the ordinance.

"Every head of household will own and maintain a firearm," he said.

Bill McNiff lives in Nelson, carries a pistol and supports the law.

"I think every city should do it. I think it should go countywide too," McNiff said.

The Nelson ordinance is modeled closely after the 1982 law passed in Kennesaw.

Is the South Still Racist?

Via David G

 http://gdb.voanews.com/FDB809C7-5B83-4E95-9DB7-C5EFF4B01220_mw1024_n_s.jpg

At times even a chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court finds it useful, as the saying goes, to put the hay down where the goats can get it. And so it was last week in oral arguments over a big voting-rights case.

At issue in Shelby County v. Holder was whether some states in the American South, unlike many states in the North, must still submit any change in voting practices to the Justice Department for approval, as required by one section of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. As Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg noted, the practical enforcement of this provision is mainly directed at Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.

After listening to his liberal colleagues argue that Alabama's election practices, as interpreted by various legal formulas four decades after the law's passage, still discriminate against blacks, Chief Justice John Roberts put the hay down in front of Solicitor General Donald Verrilli.
Chief Justice Roberts: General, is it the government's submission that the citizens in the South are more racist than citizens in the North?

General Verrilli: It is not, and I do not know the answer to that, Your Honor. . . .

Chief Justice Roberts: Well, once you said it is not, and you don't know the answer to it?

General Verrilli: I—it's not our submission. As an objective matter, I don't know the answer to that question.

The Watermelon Hunter: Bloomberg-Backed Anti-Gun Lobbyist Enjoys ‘Assault Weapons,’ photo shows

 Adam Eichberg

One of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s top gun-control lobbyists in Colorado appears to enjoy firing the very guns he is working to restrict.

Denver-based Headwaters Strategies lobbyist Adam Eichberg participated at a “watermelon shoot” in September 2012 at the farm of Colorado state Sen. Greg Brophy (R.) where he fired a semi-automatic rifle with a high-capacity magazine.

A picture obtained by the Washington Free Beacon shows Eichberg smiling broadly as he shoulders a DPMS .308 rifle with a 20-round magazine.

“I really hate watermelons,” Eichberg said via email when asked for comment.

Bloomberg’s group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, hired Headwater Strategies in January to lobby for several gun-control bills under consideration by the Colorado legislature. Those bills would ban the future sale, transfer, or manufacture of so-called high-capacity magazines in the state.

The Colorado-based company Magpul produces the high-capacity magazine Eichberg used, which would be banned under one proposed Colorado bill. Magpul has threatened to leave the state if the bill passes.

“It seemed like he had a darn fine time,” state senator Brophy said in an interview with the Free Beacon.

Neocon Whores Attack! JOHN McCAIN AND LINDSEY GRAHAM GO AFTER RAND PAUL'S FILIBUSTER

Via Billy

You got to eat your words, traitors.

Fiscally liberal “neo-conservatives” John McCain and Lindsey Graham attacked their colleague Rand Paul for having the audacity to oppose the use of drone strikes on American citizens.

McCain and Graham – who are nothing but whores for America’s military-industrial complex – derided Paul for filibustering U.S. President Barack Obama’s nomination of John Brennan as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Paul filibustered Brennan’s nomination for thirteen hours on Wednesday night in protest of the Obama administration’s refusal to rule out the use of drone strikes against American citizens on U.S. soil.

“If Mr. Paul wants to be taken seriously he needs to do more than pull political stunts – than fire up impressionable libertarian kids,” he said. “I don’t think (his filibuster was) helpful to the American people.”

Wait … what? Standing for fundamental liberties makes one an “impressionable kid?”

Paul Scores Filibuster Win, Gets Holder Response on Domestic Drone Use

 http://media.thenewstribune.com/smedia/2013/03/07/01/44/739-1mx7UA.St.55.jpeg

The White House issued a two-sentence response on Thursday to a 13-hour filibuster led by Sen. Rand Paul over whether the president is authorized to use a weaponized drone to kill U.S. citizens not engaged on combat on American soil.

“It has come to my attention that you have now asked an additional question: ‘Does the President have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil?’ The answer to that question is no,” Attorney General Eric Holder wrote.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney read the letter during his daily press briefing.

Paul said in an interview on CNN on Thursday that Holder's response was satisfactory and that he would allow a vote on the nomination of John Brennan to lead the Central Intelligence Agency. The vote is scheduled to begin shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Paul introduce a bill today that would prohibit the killing of U.S. citizens on U.S. soil if they do not present an imminent threat.

“Our Constitution restrains government power,” said Cruz, a Texas Republican. “The federal government may not use drones to kill U.S. citizens on U.S. soil if they do not represent an imminent threat. The commander in chief does, of course, have the power to protect Americans from imminent attack, and nothing in this legislation interferes with that power.”

Colorado gun bills: They happen tomorrow

Via Horace

 https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8519/8504022266_069fe4c8e0.jpg

The Colorado State Senate will convene at 9:00AM to begin a full floor debate on ALL of billionaire-playboy Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun bills.

This second reading debate will likely take all day and into the evening, with a series of voice or standing votes. A final, formal (recorded) third reading vote will be taken on Monday for any bills that pass second reading.
They will be hearing:
  • SB-195: Prohibits Colorado citizens from taking online CCW training courses.
  • SB-196: Senator Morse’s De Facto "Assault Weapons" ban, which would includes common semi-automatic hunting shotguns.
  • HB-1224: Bans all magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.
  • HB-1226: Bans armed self-defense on college campuses; expanding criminal safe-zones to all state college and university campuses.
  • HB-1228: Imposes a Jim Crow-style gun tax on all firearm purchases. This legislation has no limit on the amount the CBI could charge for a background check.
  • HB-1229: Bans the private sale of firearms and expands background checks/gun registration for all Colorado gun owners.
Despite the crowing from the liberal media, there is a chance gun owners’ pressure could kill some of the worst pieces of this legislation.

You see, despite the money and pressure that Mayor Bloomberg is using to push his New York-style gun grab here in Colorado, some in the Senate are feeling the heat.

That’s why I need you to contact these Senators, one more time. You and I might be able to kill some of Bloomberg’s agenda.
Politely and respectfully ask them not to support Bloomberg’s anti-gun agenda.
Not sure what to tell them?

Here's what I recommend:

Dear Senator NAME,
Coloradan's DO NOT support more gun control:
  • NO Magazine Bans
  • NO ban on private firearms sales
  • NO Gun Tax on gun purchases
  • NO universal background checks/gun registration
  • NO "Mental Health" database to deny gun rights
  • NO Backdoor "Assault Weapon" bans.
Please vote with Colorado gun owners, not anti-gun lobbyists from New York

Signed: (Your Name)

Once you've contacted these Senators, please forward this e-mail to ALL of your gun-owning friends and urge them to call and e-mail these Senators as well.

Want to do more? Show up at the Capitol tomorrow and fill the Senate gallery. If you can’t make it to the Capitol, you can watch the debate on Comcast channel 165 or click here to live stream the Senate debate.

Your activism -- TODAY -- could make the difference. Please don't put off for tomorrow what we must do today.

Call, e-mail, Tweet and Facebook these Senators TODAY.

Reporters call out White House for badgering, name-calling

Barack Obama

A group of journalists are speaking out regarding their treatment by White House press people. Their new boldness comes in the wake of reportedly being called foul names, among them “b***h”, “c**t” and “a**hole.”

Their new outspoken behavior was sparked by Bob Woodward’s recent op-ed on President Barack Obama in The Washington Post where he said the administration was “moving the goalposts” the night before the sequester went into effect.

The Commander-in-Chief’s people are not, and have never been, very fond of when the press — or any public figure for that matter — puts too much pressure on Obama’s White House.

“The whole Woodward thing doesn’t surprise me at all,” said David Brody, White House correspondent for CBN News. “I can tell you categorically that there’s always been, right from the get-go of this administration, an overzealous sensitivity to any push-back from any media outlet.”

Brody may not be surprised about the White House’s behavior because he experienced that same bullying in 2009 when he pursued an article regarding a cross be taken down at Georgetown University before President Obama was scheduled to speak there, according to Mediaite.

“What started as just some verbal frustration from the White House that I would even want a reason about this story turned into a full-fledged shouting match on the phone with some choice words, shall we say, and it escalated from there,” Brody said.

"Welcome to the new Confederacy where a bunch of white men are now going to take over black schools."

Rep. Mary Moore

State Rep. Mary Moore has shown time and again she isn't one to add clarity to a situation.

Remember it was Moore who called Birmingham News/AL.com staffer Marie Leech "retarded" in a public meeting last summer. Despite offending several advocacy groups, Moore didn't apologize for her insensitivity to them or to Leech.

There are plenty of valid criticisms to make about last week's hijacking of the legislative process by Republicans to pass the Alabama Accountability Act. Wouldn't take much work, either. But leave it to Moore to get that simple task wrong, too.
