Judge Orders Colorado Cake Maker to Serve Gay Couples

A baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony must serve gay couples despite his religious beliefs or face fines, a judge said Friday.

The order from administrative law judge Robert N. Spencer said Masterpiece Cakeshop in suburban Denver discriminated against a couple “because of their sexual orientation by refusing to sell them a wedding cake for their same-sex marriage.”

The order says the cake-maker must “cease and desist from discriminating” against gay couples. Although the judge did not impose fines in this case, the business will face penalties if it continues to turn away gay couples who want to buy cakes.

Merrill Newman, 85, the U.S. tourist and war veteran who was detained in North Korea for more than a month, was on his way home to California Saturday after the nation deported him.

"I feel good," Newman told reporters at the Beijing airport,  adding with a laugh that the first thing he planned to do was "go home and see my wife."

"I am very glad to be on my way home," said Newman, who was held after he returned to the North six decades after his stint advising South Korean guerrillas still loathed by Pyongyang.

Man says police officer threatened to kill his dogs

A Kansas City man says he’s been terrified since an encounter with police on Monday evening. He says officers came to his home in southeast Kansas City looking for people he’d never heard of and when he refused to let them inside, things turned ugly.

Eric Crinnian, a lawyer,  heard a loud banging at his door Monday night, he was instantly alarmed since a neighbor’s house was robbed a few weeks ago, so he grabbed a crow-bar.

Crinnian said three police officers were outside his house.

“I open the door a little bit wider and he sees that I have something in my hand, so he pulls his gun, tells me to put down whatever I’ve got and then come out with my hands up, so I do,” Crinnian said.

They wanted to know where two guys were, and Crinnian later found out police believed they violated parole.

“I said, ‘I have no idea who you’re talking about I’ve never heard of these people before,’” he said.
To prove it, he said police asked to search his house, Crinnian refused multiple times.  He said they needed a warrant.

Then he said one police officer started threatening him saying, “If we have to get a warrant, we’re going to come back when you’re not expecting it, we’re going to park in front of your house, where all your neighbors can see, we’re gonna bust in your door with a battering ram, we’re gonna shoot and kill your dogs, who are my family, and then we’re going to ransack your house looking for these people.”

U.S. Military Changes Drone Rules To Make Targeting Of Civilians Easier

Via WiscoDave

http://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/images/user3303/imageroot/2013/12/drone_0.jpg

The drone issue is just another topic in which President Barrack Obama has proven himself to be a world-class liar and master of deception. Despite his claims that drone strikes do little damage to civilian populations, in July we discovered that “of the 746 people killed in drone strikes in Pakistan from 2006-2009, an incredible 20% were civilians and 94 (13% of the total) were children.”
I suppose that number just isn’t good enough, because The Pentagon has decided to change the rules of engagement when it comes to drone strikes, now making it easier to target civilians. From The Washington Times:
The Pentagon has loosened its guidelines on avoiding civilian casualties during drone strikes, modifying instructions from requiring military personnel to “ensure” civilians are not targeted to encouraging service members to “avoid targeting” civilians.
Hey cops, how about you “try to avoid” beating the shit out of people and violating their constitutional rights for no reason. Yeah, because that’ll work.

Brain-dead: Looking Back: 68% Viewed Mandela Favorably

http://www.r-sw.com/custimages/dd395-ANC%20(site).jpg

Rasmussen Reports asked Americans in February 2011 how they viewed then-92-year-old Nelson Mandela as he faced an earlier health crisis. Most Americans held the iconic South African leader who died Thursday in high regard. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 68% of American Adults shared a favorable opinion of Mandela, with 25% who viewed him Very Favorably. Twenty percent (20%) regarded Mandela unfavorably, but that included just six percent (6%) with a Very Unfavorable opinion. Twelve percent (12%) were undecided.  SC, NC rank 'most courteous,' Ohioans most likely to curse

Americans don’t refer to Southern hospitality for nothing.

It turns out there’s proof those living in Southern states are well mannered, especially those in the Carolinas.

A study by Marchex, a mobile ad technology company, dubs South Carolina as the “Most Courteous.” North Carolina ranks No. 2. Marchex says residents are most likely to say “please” and “thank you.” Maryland, in third place, is the only Northern state in the top five. Louisiana and Georgia rank fourth and fifth, respectively.

 INVITATION

What:   Lee & Jackson Banquet

When:  6:00 pm on January 18, 2014

Where: King’s Restaurant on US 70 east in Kinston, NC

Why:    To celebrate the birthdays of Generals Robert E. Lee and Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson

Who:    Anyone who cherishes the memory of these two                   Southern heroes

The Goldsboro Rifles, The Dr. B. T. Person and the Smithfield Light Infantry Camps are hosting a Lee & Jackson Banquet.  Please come and help us celebrate the birthdays of these two great men and Confederate leaders.  It is General Lee’s 207th and General Jackson’s 190th birthday.

We are proud to have as our speaker for this banquet, one of our own, editor of our Confederate Veteran magazine, Frank B. Powell III.

We are very pleased to have as our returning entertainer this year, Mr. Jimmy Aycock, who is a very well known pianist here in eastern North Carolina.  I know you will be as pleased with his musical offerings as many of us have been for years.

The meal, served family style, will consist of King’s barbecue, fried chicken, Brunswick stew, slaw, potatoes, tea and hushpuppies.

If you would like to be a part of this special celebration, please send your check made out to Allen Aycock--$30.00/couple--$15.00/single to:

                       Allen G. Aycock, Sr.

                       1128 Aycock Dairy Farm Road

                       Fremont, NC 27830

Please send it to Allen by January 11, 2014 so we can give the restaurant a head count in time for them to prepare for us.  In the past, quite a few have waited to pay at the door.  When you do that, we cannot give the restaurant an accurate head count, so, please, send your check to Allen.  It really helps us as we want to have enough food and seating for everyone.  Thanks for your co-operation.

Please feel free to pass this along to ANYONE that you think might like to attend.  You do not have to belong to the SCV to be a part of this celebration. It is open to all General Lee and General Jackson admirers.

We will be having a silent auction again this year to raise money for the General Joseph E. Johnston Monument.  We encourage you to bring items for the auction.  Who knows, someone else may bring just what you have been looking for and you might bring what he or she has been looking for.  Items do not have to be War Between the States theme items, just any items you would like to donate to help us with the monument.

For questions, you may email me at gnfields@msn.com  or call me at 919-778-9565.

Please forgive me if you get multiples of this invitation.  I am using several sources for addresses.

Hope to see you at the banquet,

Glenn Fields
