A top Ebola researcher tells Newsmax Health there is a 20 percent chance that the deadly virus will begin spreading within the U.S. in the next two weeks.

Ira Longini, a professor of biostatistics at the University of Florida, was part of a team of researchers that used a mathematical model to generate projections of the epidemic spread of Ebola worldwide. The scientists took into consideration daily airline passenger travel worldwide, information about the disease’s spread rate, and other factors.

“As the Ebola outbreak in West Africa continues to spread, isolated cases will likely make their way to the United States,” Longini told Newsmax Health. “Our latest estimates show there is a nearly 20 percent chance that this will occur within two weeks.”

In the long run, the probability the fatal disease will spread here is “almost inevitable,” added Longini, who collaborated in a new Ebola analysis published in the journal PLOS Currents: Outbreaks.

Putin promises new weapons to fend Western threats

Russia will counter military moves by the U.S. and NATO with an array of new nuclear and conventional weapons, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday as the military successfully test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile from a nuclear submarine.

At the same time, he emphasized that Russia will not enter a new arms race and will tightly control its military budget to avoid overburdening the economy.

Putin accused the West of using the crisis in Ukraine to reinvigorate NATO, warning that Moscow will ponder a response to the alliance's decision to create a rapid-reaction "spearhead" force to protect Eastern Europe.

The statement appeared to signal that the Russian leader is determined to pursue a tough course in the face of more Western sanctions over the Ukraine crisis that has sent Russia-West relations plummeting to their lowest point since the Cold War.

The Army reports that only 10 percent of its active-duty officers are black

and?

U.S. Army sociologists are worried that a lack of black officers leading its combat troops will have detrimental effect on minorities and lead to fewer black officers in top leadership posts.

“The issue exists. The leadership is aware of it,” Brig. Gen. Ronald Lewis toldUSA Today on Thursday. “The leadership does have an action plan in place. And it’s complicated.”

Militia Threatens to Block Traffic at International Bridges

Law enforcement officials and city leaders from across the Rio Grande Valley are preparing for what they say could result in tense moments or violence.

Officials say they received word that members of a militia are threatening to block ports of entry.
In Starr County, international bridge authorities met with Customs and Border Protection officials Thursday. Their goal was to discuss the potential problem and find a plan of action.

Starr County has international bridges in Rio Grande City, Roma and Falcon Dam.

Officials received word that members of a militia plan to protest illegal crossings by blocking traffic on Sept. 20.

Rio Grande City Mayor Ruben Villarreal said members of the group have a right to express their opinion. His is concerned about the group's intent, though.

D'Souza: Sorry for crime but not for criticizing Obama

 Dinesh D'Souza

Facing a request by Justice Department prosecutors for a 16-month sentence, author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza rejected their assertion that he hasn’t taken responsibility for his campaign-finance violations.

“I am contrite for exceeding the campaign finance limit, but I am not contrite for being a public critic of the Obama administration,” D’Souza told WND in an exclusive interview Friday.

In a court filing Wednesday, prosecutors argued D’Souza’s continued criticism of Obama in many media interviews after pleading guilty to campaign finance violations demonstrated an unwillingness to take responsibility for his crime.

As WND reported May 20, D’Souza pleaded guilty to using “straw donors.” He reimbursed friends $10,000 for donating to Wendy Long’s U.S. Senate campaign in 2012, circumventing the $5,000 federal limit for individual contributions. Long has been a friend since the 1980s, when both attended Dartmouth College.

Bill Mayer and Charlie Rose on Islam and Christianity

Via Charlie

& he's from North Carolina, sad to say.

BILL MAHER: I saw Howard Dean on TV the other day and he said something along the order, he said the people in ISIS -- he said I'm about as Islamic as they are, you know, distancing the vast numbers of Islamic people around the world from them. That's just not true.

CHARLIE ROSE: It is true.

MAHER: It is not true, Charlie. There is a connecting tissue between --

ROSE: Behind every Muslim is a future member of some radical?

MAHER: Let me finish.

ROSE: I was doing that.

MAHER: There are illiberal beliefs that are held by vast numbers of Muslim people that --
ROSE: A vast number of Christians too.

MAHER: No, that's not true. Not true. Vast numbers of Christians do not believe that if you leave the Christian religion you should be killed for it. Vast numbers of Christians do not treat women as second class citizens. Vast numbers of Christians --

THE 1945 EVENT THAT THE ALLIES BURIED: American And British Handover Of Russians And Cossacks To The Red Army

  Via Nancy

“The NKVD or the Gestapo would have slain us with truncheons, the British did it with their word of honor.”

This is something that Britain would like buried in the ground. It is said that there were no good guys in the Second World War. The forced return of Cossacks to the Red Army by the British in 1945 only proves the point.

A bit of background. The Cossacks have always been fiercely independent. They had fought the Bolsheviks with the Whites in 1919. Many had emigrated to other countries. In 1941 when the Germans invaded Russia the Cossacks found a way to fight the Stalinist regime. They fought in the Wehrmacht against the Red Army.

As the war was ending, the Cossacks  found themselves cornered in Austria, in areas controlled by the British. They thought they would be safe. But their fate had been sealed at the Yalta conference.

What followed was something that the British would hardly be proud about. All the captured Cossacks were handed over to the Red Army. Women and children included. Knowing full well the sad fate that awaited the Cossacks.

In the Bond film "Golden Eye" Bond says about this bit of history, "Not exactly our finest hour".

Equally reprehensible for the Allies was the handing over of those Russians who were anti-communists, anti-Stalin and had fought the Red Army with the Germans.

Yalta made the Allied democracies do things that has left an indelible blot on their history.

The Cossacks didn’t go willingly.

Missouri Senate OVERRIDES Governor’s Veto of Pro-Gun Bill, Expands Open Carry & Guns in Schools

Via Rd Conner

 Missouri Capitol

The Missouri legislature has thrown Democratic Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of a pro-gun bill back in his face.

Late yesterday, the legislature, who met in a special session, voted to override the governor’s veto of SB656.

The vote by the state senate was a fairly one sided 23-8, largely along party lines. We don’t have the House vote total yet, but it had to be at least a 2/3 majority.
