HPAC, SCV file lawsuit against Reidsville, NC

Two organizations have filed lawsuits against the city of Reidsville and three state organizations in another attempt to return the Reidsville Confederate Monument to the roundabout at Scales and Morehead streets.
The Historic Preservation Action Committee (HPAC) and the North Carolina Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) had their attorney, Peter H. Ledford, file a lawsuit against the city of Reidsville, the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (NCDCR) and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC).
The lawsuit was filed in response to the actions each organization took in regards to the Reidsville Confederate Monument, which stood in the intersection of Scales Street and West Morehead Street for 101 years. The monument was shattered last May after a Greensboro man, Mark Anthony Vincent, drove his car into the monument. The statue on top broke into pieces but the base remained, for the most part, intact, though shifted from its original position.

Navy plane crash in Virginia Beach caught on dramatic tape

Dramatic video posted on YouTube captured the moment when a Navy jet crashed into an apartment complex in Virginia Beach and exploded into flames.
“This apartment complex right here, this one is already ruined,” a man can be heard saying.
In the background, a woman can be heard shouting “Everybody out. Let’s go, everybody out” as the fire quickly spread throughout the complex.

Trump: Obama Has Deal With Saudis to Cut Oil Prices Before Election
Billionaire developer Donald Trump says President Barack Obama has made a secret deal with Saudi leaders to cut oil prices, and thereby gasoline prices, ahead of the 2012 election.
"Even though gasoline and oil prices are going through the roof, I have no doubt in my mind that President Obama made a deal with the Saudis to flood the markets with oil before the election, so he can at least keep it down a little bit," Trump says in an Internet video as part of his series "From the Desk of Donald Trump."
Oil now stands at $103 per barrel, and gasoline prices average $3.94 across the United States.
After the election, the oil market is going to be a mess, Trump says.
“If he [Obama] wins, oil and gasoline shoot through the roof like never before. Let's hope he doesn't win. I believe a deal was made. It's a sinister deal, but let's see whether or not I was right."

Help needed in identifying metal detector found item on Dixieland
Found by Richard G. Williams, Jr. of Old Virginia Blog on Dixieland yesterday. Does anyone have any idea what this may be? My Great, Great Grandfather Joseph John Pippen founded Columbia Academy on his property Dixieland in 1827 so I thought might be a medal from the school.

Healthy polar bear count confounds doomsayers
Oh my, another inconvenient fact.
The debate about climate change and its impact on polar bears has intensified with the release of a survey that shows the bear population in a key part of northern Canada is far larger than many scientists thought, and might be growing.
The number of bears along the western shore of Hudson Bay, believed to be among the most threatened bear subpopulations, stands at 1,013 and could be even higher, according to the results of an aerial survey released Wednesday by the Government of Nunavut. That’s 66 per cent higher than estimates by other researchers who forecasted the numbers would fall to as low as 610 because of warming temperatures that melt ice faster and ruin bears’ ability to hunt. The Hudson Bay region, which straddles Nunavut and Manitoba, is critical because it’s considered a bellwether for how polar bears are doing elsewhere in the Arctic.

"Not In Labor Force" At New All Time High
March NFP big miss at just 120K. Unemployment rate declines from 8.3% to 8.2%. Futures slide, for at least a few minutes before the NEW QE TM rumor starts spreading. The household survey actually posted a decline in March from 142,065 to 142,034. Considering Birth Death added 90K to the NSA number, the actual number was almost unchanged. And as always, as we predicted when Goldman hiked its NFP forecast yesterday from 175K to 200K saying "if Goldman's recent predictive track record is any indication, tomorrow's NFP will be a disaster", Goldie once again skewers everyone. Finally, Joe LaVorgna's +250,000 forecast was just 100% off... as usual.
The unemployment rate drops to 8.2% for one simple reason: the number of people not in the labor force is back to all time highs: 87,897,000.
