The Dark, Hulking Figure of Government

 http://floppingaces.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/tyranny.jpg

My experience with the IRS came at the height of what we now know was a period of intimidation and discrimination against conservative groups. At the time I was involved in organizing a political event in Washington, D.C. Perhaps I was naive enough to think I had to do something wrong to be targeted by the IRS.

I knew that Guardians of Liberty would shake some people up, that we would get the attention of liberal groups, labor unions, etc. I expected that and prepared for it. When the local Guido from the IRS entered my place of business, I didn't give him much thought. He demanded my records, which I explained were with my CPA. That is why I had a CPA; to get it right. The CPA did the payroll taxes and sent a package to me to sign and put in the mail with a check. I had done nothing wrong and felt no guilt or shame, it would all get worked out. No matter what he thought I had done, I knew I had not.

That began a year-long period of harassment, demanding records after records until they found a mistake I had made, an honest mistake. I still feel no guilt over that mistake, but it was that day that I go back to time after time when I think of our government.

He stood in my outer office, hovering in a dark overcoat.

Former Top NSA Official: “We Are Now In A Police State”

Via WRSA

Bill Binney is the high-level NSA executive who created the agency’s mass surveillance program for digital information.  A 32-year NSA veteran widely regarded as a “legend” within the agency, Binney was the senior technical director within the agency and managed thousands of NSA employees.

Binney has been interviewed by virtually all of the mainstream media, including CBS, ABC, CNN, New York Times, USA Today, Fox News, PBS and many others.

Last year, Binney held his thumb and forefinger close together, and said:
We are, like, that far from a turnkey totalitarian state.
But today, Binney told Washington’s Blog that the U.S. has already become  a police state.

By way of background, the government is spying on virtually everything we do.

At 82, she's a 'big deer hunter'

Via The Lonely Libertarian

Violet Mears, 82, relies on a 60-year old sawed-off rifle to bring down deer.

Violet Mears can still bring home the bacon, or, in her case, the venison.

When she was 73, the housewife decided it was time to make a lifestyle change.

"I decided I had cooked enough meals and kept them hot for him all these years that one day I told him, 'You stay home. I'm goin' huntin.' Never been huntin' before," she said. So far she has bagged eight deer, one an 8-point buck. "I'm probably the oldest lady hunter on the Eastern Shore."

Every deer she has killed has been with one shot.

"For someone who has started so late in life deer hunting, she's done great," said her husband of 64 years, Otho "O.W." Mears. "She started off as a pro.

Paul Ryan & the GOP Must Own the Cuts to Veterans Benefits

Via Terry

 Paul Ryan

TEA Party, all the way, Sir!

Republicans in the Senate want to restore veterans benefits to the Paul Ryan – Patty Murray Budget plan.

Harry Reid is blocking the amendment so Republicans are blaming Harry Reid for cutting veterans benefits.

That is intellectually dishonest of the GOP.

Paul Ryan, a Republican, drafted the plan with Patty Murray, a Democrat.

House Republicans overwhelming approved the plan before it even made it to Harry Reid for a vote. The Republicans could have restored the cuts themselves in the House. Instead, they voted for the plan with the cuts to veterans benefits and went home.

Ruger Expands the Popular Line of Lightweight Compact Revolvers with the Addition of the LCRx

 RugerLCRxPR

Makes no sense to me.  Why in the world would you rather have an exposed hammer when the LCR's is inside?  Plus they don't come in .357, though they may later.

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) announces the introduction of the LCRx™, the newest variation of the revolutionary Lightweight Compact Revolver (LCR®). Chambered in .38 Special +P, the LCRx™ features an external hammer that allows it to be fired in single-action mode.

“Since its introduction in 2009, the LCR® has become extremely popular with conceal carry customers seeking the simplicity of a revolver,” said Chris Killoy, Ruger Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Customers have been asking for a traditional double-action version of the LCR® with an external hammer for optional single-action shooting. We were listening and have added a crisp single-action mode to the already smooth double-action LCR®,” he concluded.

Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC): “Absolutely shocked” at the level of foreign state involvement in the 9/11 attacks after reading classified report

 9-11

If al Qaeda had support from foreign governments during 9/11, should the public know about it? Many Americans are demanding it, especially those who lost loved ones. Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) and Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) said they were “absolutely shocked” at the level of foreign state involvement in the attacks after reading the classified section of the 9/11 report.

Rep. Jones and Rep Lynch introduced H. Res. 428 this month that asks President Obama to declassify the entire 2002 report, “Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001.”

Senate Dems block amendment to restore veteran benefits by closing illegal immigrant welfare loophole
Senator Wicker offered his own amendment to restore the cuts by targeting a child tax credit loophole that illegal immigrants have used to unlawfully obtain welfare benefits.

Figures, after all, illegal aliens are more important than veterans........

Senate Republicans were unable to stop military pension cuts when Senate Democrats blocked a vote on an amendment to prevent the cuts by closing a welfare loophole for illegal immigrants Tuesday evening.

The two-year budget deal brokered by Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, would cut military pensions by $6 billion over ten years, leaving some Senate Republicans scrambling to stop the cuts.

“Removing this unbalanced treatment of our military retirees ought to be one of the key actions we should take before this legislation moves forward. In fact, greater savings than this can be achieved by passing a legislative fix recommended by the Inspector General of the U.S. Treasury that would stop the IRS from improperly providing tax credits to illegal aliens,” Alabama Republican Jeff Sessions said Monday, announcing his co-sponsorship of Mississippi Republican Sen. Roger Wicker’s amendment to restore the military retirement benefits Monday.

Well, things just escalated quickly in Massachusetts.

Warren Tolman, a former state senator and a current candidate for Attorney General of Massachusetts has basically said he will use the Massachusetts equivalent of an executive order to require that all guns sold in the state incorporate finger print scanning technology that would make the gun usable by only its owner (aka “smart guns”).
