A Book for a Southerner’s Bookshelf: War For What ? (I cannot recommend it highly enough)

 Southern Homestead

Recently a commencement speaker exhorted graduating students to “be on the right side of history.”

The commencement speaker used the phrase ‘be on the right side of history’ to mean actively supporting social trends that are currently in fashion.

But ‘the right side of history’ also implies that there are right and wrong sides of history. Indeed there are different versions of history depending on the historian doing the research and the reporting.

However, for the last half-century, academia, media, and the entertainment field have offered students and the public a one-sided, highly politicized version of American history that depicts the South and its traditions as irretrievably flawed. Even public libraries in Southern cities seldom shelve books that depict the South sympathetically. Consequently many Southerners have had to assemble their own book collections.

As an addition to a Southerner’s book collection, I recommend War For What ? by Francis W. Springer. Born in 1899, Mr. Springer spent his youth in Washington, D.C. and New York City, attending that city’s schools and Columbia University. After retiring from a career in the Northeast, Springer and his wife, Beulah Hollidge, a Boston native, spent their remaining years on a farm in Charlottesville, Virginia. The couple’s fascination with American history led them to spend years of copious research into our country’s past. The result was numerous historical articles and Springer’s book War For What ?.

FBI Agents Privately Believe Lynch, Clinton Struck ‘An Inside Deal’

Loretta Lynch

According to The New York Post, FBI agents who worked on the Hillary Clinton email investigation are privately upset with the decision not to charge her and are quietly alleging that Attorney General Loretta Lynch must have struck a deal with her husband Bill Clinton during their private meeting.

The Post cites anonymous sources in the FBI who claim that agents investigating Clinton were subject to higher-than-usual scrutiny. Agents had to sign “Case Briefing Acknowledgment” forms, non-disclosure agreements keeping them from speaking to anyone about the case unless called to testify. As a result, agents cannot go public with their opinions of the case, whether they agree with the final result or not.

The Religion of Peace: Gun and truck ISIS terror attack leaves at least 77 dead in Nice

Via Billy

Eyewitnesses reported there were exchanges of gunfire between police and suspected terrorists in Nice, southern FranceĀ

At least 77 people have been killed and more than 50 injured after a truck mowed down crowds for more than a mile before the driver got out and sprayed crowds with bullets in a terror attack during the Bastille Day celebrations in the French city of Nice.

One eyewitness described seeing 'bodies flying like bowling pins' and 'hearing noises, cries that I will never forget’ as the horror unfolded at around 10.30pm last night.

The truck driver was said to have shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ — God is greatest — before being shot dead by police. Pro-ISIS groups have been celebrating the attack but as yet the terror group has not officially claimed responsibility.

Guns and grenades were later found inside the truck, which mounted the pavement at approximately 40mph and steered directly towards hundreds of people watching a fireworks display.

Anti-terror police swooped in as the city was put on lockdown and residents were warned to stay indoors for their safety. Gunshots rang out in the streets, with gunmen targeting hotels and cafes in the port city in the south of France.

George Clooney Calls For More Refugees, Gets Nasty Surprise On His Doorstep

Out-of-touch leftist celebrities like George Clooney have used their wealth and fame as a platform for chastising taxpayers for not taking in Muslim asylum seekers. However, after arriving at his lavish $9.8 million vacation home, Obama’s favorite celeb campaigner woke up to find a perfectly ironic surprise waiting at his front door.

In a dose of irony and karma almost too perfect to be true, megastar Clooney and his Muslim attorney wife Amal Clooney had just taken out a restraining order against a 55-year-old mentally ill veteran when they stumbled upon an unwanted surprise at their favorite getaway home at the luxurious Lake Como Italian resort.

After months of hearing Clooney and his wife bash Americans for not taking in enough refugees, the privileged pair has had their $9.8 million vacation property infiltrated by the migrants for whom they have spent so much time advocating but so little time actually putting their money where their mouth is.

Cuckservatives, Including Newt Gingrich, Call Retreat After Dallas. Will Trump?

In 2009, Gingrich toured with Al Sharpton promoting some education nostrum or other

The bodies were barely cold in Dallas when leading cuckservatives were already rushing to triangulate between the hate group Black Lives Matter and the American policemen struggling to contain a low-level insurgency. To those familiar with The Stupid Party and Conservatism Inc., no such display of cowardice could be surprising. But will Donald Trump follow, either by caving himself—or by picking a cuck-compromised figure like Newt Gingrich as his Vice President?

Trump’s initial reaction after the shootings in Dallas was sound. Hours before Hillary Clinton responded, Trump offered “prayers and condolences” to “all of the families” “devastated by the horrors we are all watching take place in our country.” In a longer response posted to his Facebook page, Trump called for the restoration of “law and order” and decried the worsening of racial tensions. He also called for “strong leadership, love, and compassion.” Especially given that many European-Americans voted for Barack Obama because they thought he would heal the racial divide, this is a sober and highly appropriate response.

Obama Dallas

On Tuesday, President Obama descended on Dallas to hijack the memorial service for five slain police officers. He’d planned to do this for days – his White House stated in advance that Obama would get political.

But for the first few minutes of Obama’s address, it appeared that he might take stock of the moment and hold himself back.

Then it all collapsed.

Here are the seven worst moments of his latest opportunistic, highly political, egregiously inappropriate address:

Trump to Pick Mike Pence, Says Source

Donald Trump is planning to announce that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is his choice for his vice presidential running mate, according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the decision.

As Trump narrowed in on his choice of Pence, the two men spent time at both Trump's golf resort in New Jersey in early July and at the Indiana governor's mansion this week.

In addition to testing the men's chemistry together, Trump was reportedly impressed with Pence's calm demeanor, his experience on Capitol Hill and as a governor, and Pence's potential to assist Trump in governing, should the ticket win in November.

Pence served 12 years in Congress, rising to the No. 3 post in the House Republican leadership, before leaving to run for Indiana governor in 2012. There he faced criticism for his handling of a religious liberties law that many said would discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity. When he backpedaled in the face of boycotts, he angered some conservatives, as well.

New Harvard Study By Black Professor Says There’s No Racial Bias in Police Shootings

New Study Says There’s No Racial Bias in Police Shootings

If the Black Lives Matter movement is predicated on anything resembling facts, logic, or reality, a new Harvard study will be the end of that misbegotten organization. For the first time, a study – carried out by a liberal, aimed at proving BLM right – has concluded that police are no more likely to shoot a black man than a white man. In fact, Roland Fryer’s study shows that whites are actually more likely to get shot in a police encounter.

“It is the most surprising result of my career,” said Fryer. The African-American professor said that instead of protesting, he wanted to use science to prove that blacks were being targeted by police. “I decided that I was going to collect a bunch of data and try to understand what really is going on when it comes to racial differences in police use of force.”

He and his researchers turned their attention to 1,332 police shootings in Houston, Dallas, Orlando, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, and four other Florida counties from 2000 to 2015. The result? In cases where they had not been attacked, officers more frequently opened fire on white suspects than their black counterparts. In cases where they were attacked, officers were 20% less likely to shoot black suspects.

Overall, there was nothing to indicate that police were more likely to shoot black suspects than white suspects.
