"The thrust of Obama's agenda follows Lenin's. The old jobs are gone. We must prepare for the future by educating our youth. The sturm und drang of the "We Musts" quickly becomes an argument for pandering to the teacher's unions. Only by empowering the teacher's union will we be able to compete with China. But China isn't strong because of its teachers, but because it has no independent unions, no minimum wage, no pollution laws and nothing to get in the way of the terrible machine of its industry. The People's Republic of China is not beating us in science or math, but in manufacturing cheap products with an undervalued national currency."

"What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive?.... The [Security] Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers ... and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!"--

Click on the video at left, Beware of Con-Cons: State Legislators Warn Against a Constitutional Convention, for our latest tool for convincing state legislators to oppose Con-Con resolutions and to support rescinding all of their existing Con-Con calls.
We've also posted a new article on JBS.org: "Beware of Con-Cons -- A Warning Against a Constitutional Convention." This article includes ordering information for 12- and 30-minute DVDs of our Beware of Con-Cons video, as well as 12- and 30-minute audio CDs.
Contact your state legislators by phone and email with these two purposes in mind: (1) Convince them to oppose any new Con-Con call resolution in your state legislature; and (2) Convince them to sponsor or cosponsor a resolution to rescind all of your state's existing Con-Con calls based on the "Model Con-Con State Rescission Resolution" (unless you live in one of the following states which have already passed a resolution to rescind all previous Con-Con calls: Ala., Ariz., Ga., Idaho, La., Mont., N.D., N.H., Okla., Ore., S.C., S.D., Tenn., Va., Utah, and Wy.).

"Our four recent articles on “not spinning the civil war” certainly “stirred the soup.” A number of you expressed surprise at the conciseness of President Lincoln’s stated, solitary war aim inscribed in stone in the lower level museum below his statue in the Memorial, admitting you’d never seen this 1864 quote before:
"Announce bad news on a Friday afternoon, the rule in official Washington goes. Attorney General Eric Holder seems to have a new corollary: Make bad appointments over holiday breaks.
It works. Holder’s announcement on Christmas Eve that he was appointing Robin Ashton as the new head of the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) went virtually unnoticed in the press, other than a highly complimentary article in the Washington Post.
That’s unfortunate, considering how important this position is. OPR investigates ethics violations by Justice Department lawyers. It should be headed by someone who does not place partisanship above the law, and who has the highest ethical standards and a sterling reputation. Robin Ashton does not fit that bill. Indeed, Ashton’s antics at DOJ have often been so petty and juvenile that she should be disqualified from serving in any career leadership position at Justice, much less the one responsible for enforcing ethical standards."Via Sipsey Street Irregulars

"Oliver Hardy was born Norvell Hardy in Harlem, Georgia. His father, Oliver, was a Confederate veteran wounded at the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862. After his demobilization as a recruiting officer for Company K, 16th Georgia Regiment, the elder Oliver Hardy assisted his father in running the vestiges of the family cotton plantation, bought a share in a retail business and was elected full-time Tax Collector for Columbia County. His mother, Emily Norvell, the daughter of Thomas Benjamin Norvell and Mary Freeman, was descended from Captain Hugh Norvell of Williamsburg, Virginia. Her family arrived in Virginia before 1635. Their marriage took place on March 12, 1890; it was the second marriage for the widow Emily, and the third for Oliver. He was of paternal English American descent and maternal Scottish American descent." Read the rest HERE.
".58 caliber rifled musket had more than double the range of a smoothbore percussion musket. It had more than double the fire rate of a smoothbore flintlock and four to five times of a flintlock rifle. By the 1790s standards, it was a super weapon -- as the Russians found out during the Crimean War of 1854-55. Should Americans be allowed to have such terribly modern weapons?"
Get along? Work together? Hand in hand, seat by seat?
Patriots war against our enemies. It’s not about getting along. It’s about getting rid of the traitors. To the Communist Democrat, getting along means doing what he wants. Working together means letting him have his way. Republicans have never learned this obvious lesson. They’re too preoccupied with appearing like prep school boys, afraid to get dirty. Afraid to be accused."

"2% of the ME population is free, and 100% of that free population lives in Israel. (Chart at link) All of them. Every freedom-loving, Levi-wearing, lipstick-toting, woman-driving, beer-drinking, movie-watching, gay-feeling, hand-holding, gun-toting, free-loving, back-talking Arab in the entire Middle East lives in Israel."
