Vox “Smart Take” Pushes Gun Confiscation. Here’s What Would Happen If They Tried.

Vox’s Zach Beauchamp is suggesting that the United States should follow the lead of Australia’s mandatory gun buyback.

Australia confiscated 650,000 guns. Murders and suicides plummeted.

The on-camera shooting of two Virginia reporters Wednesday morning seems bound to evoke, like so many shootings before it, some sort of national conversation about gun control. Which means there will likely be some of debate about whether it would even be possible for the US to limit its millions of privately held guns — by far a higher per capita gun ownership rate than any other country.
It is worth considering, as one data point in the pool of evidence about what sorts of gun control policies do and do not work, the experience of Australia.

  1. Homicides and suicides by GUNS may have plummeted in Australia, but there are other means of doing the deed that need to be investigated - knives, fists, machetes, those more "up close and personal ways." Plus, no matter how hard the Lawmakers try, those dang criminals still seem to get their hands on guns - imagine them breaking the gun laws! Also, keep in mind that homicides include more than murders. If someone is trying to kill you, and you kill them in self-defense, that is a homicide, but not a murder.

  3. Seems the British tried that at Lexington. Perhaps Vox is proposing open season on the government?

  4. We have more complaints now than then and we are further apart than we were in '61. It doesn't look promising for the commies to come down to earth and leave us alone.

  5. Archie Bunker one time responded to his daughter's parroted line about gun deaths with "Would you feel better, little girl, if they were pushed out of windows..."

Of course liberals, especially now, are immune to logic. If the deaths resulted from people being pushed out of windows, the liberals would campaign to ban windows.

    1. Indeed.

"Ah, you miserable creatures! You who think that you are so great! You who judge humanity to be so small! You who wish to reform everything! Why don’t you reform yourselves? That task would be sufficient enough.”

“See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.”

"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it."
