Custer Demands Surrender Of Longstreet

"Well," said Custer, "no matter about General Grant. We demand the surrender be made to us. If you do not do so, we will renew hostilities."

Page 406 Longstreet responds.

"How dare you come into our ranks when you know that a flag of truce is out! You are insulting General Grant! And you are insulting General Lee! Get out of here!"

Having been chastised in such a forceful manner, Custer turns his horse around and rides off without muttering a word.
