Trayvon Martin supporters deface Confederate monuments in New Orleans

Protesters hoping to draw attention to the killing of a Florida teen and a pair of deadly officer-involved shootings in New Orleans left their mark on some of the Crescent City's famous monuments on Tuesday, vandalizing the structures and causing thousands of dollars in damage."For Wendell Allen," reads one message -- a reference to the 20-year-old who was unarmed when he was shot and killed by New Orleans police executing a warrant at a home earlier this month."For Justin Sipp," reads one of the other messages. Sipp died nearly a month ago in a shootout with NOPD officers near City Park. Two officers were seriously wounded, and officials said Sipp unloaded his weapon during the shootout.Several scrawlings reference the death of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla., in February. The 17-year-old was unarmed when he was shot by a neighborhood watch captain who had reported the boy as "suspicious." The shooter has not been charged and the case has prompted protests across the nation.
