The Confederate Cemetery
The Colonel L. L Polk, Camp, #1486 of Garner, and the Ashe and Pettigrew United Daughters of the Confederacy chapters will hold its 7th annual Confederate Memorial Service at Oakwood Cemetery. The service will have hymns, scripture, prayers, and North Carolina author and historian Michael Hardy as the featured speaker.
With assistance from the Polk camp’s Color Guard, local re-enactors from the 6th NC State Troops and artillery from the Edenton Bell Battery, the main program will honor 7 Confederates who died during 1862, as well as Joel and Joseph Holleman.
Each of the 1,400 Confederate headstones in the cemetery will be decorated with a Confederate battle flag for the ceremony.
All are invited to celebrate this annual event and honor all Confederate soldiers who fought in the War Between the States.
Refreshments will be served in the House of Memory at the conclusion of the service.
