Author Advocates Letting ‘Mouth-breathing, Racist’ South Secede

Liberals really should decide how they feel about the idea of southern states seceding from the union. The MSNBC crowd suddenly wraps itself in Old Glory and rediscovers the meaning of “treason” at the mention of it.

Others, like travel writer Chuck Thompson, wish they’d go. He honestly believes Southern conservatives are standing in the way of progress and solely responsible for political gridlock. The only ‘logical’ way of dealing with it in his mind is secession. Only then can the Northern states have the utopian society they’re apparently on the verge of attaining.

Despite being known for more of a tongue-in-cheek style, he couldn’t have been any more serious. So serious in fact, that he wrote a book called “Better Off without ‘Em: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession”. He promoted it in a recent radio interview with AlterNet’s Joshua Holland.

“We didn’t let the South go when we had the chance. We would have avoided a lot of problems,” Thompson said. “We – meaning this group in the north as we might identify ourselves – could take the country we want into a direction that we think is befitting of America without this push and pull that comes from the Southern states.”

The problem, he said, is that “dim-witted, mouth-breathing, racist rednecks” represent enormous “voting quorums” in the South. Apparently, they get that way by being Christian. Evangelical Christians who literally interpret the Bible and adhere to its principles are “lunatics” somehow. “In the South, it’s different, because there is no such thing as compromise,” he said. “If its God’s law that is driving you … then you simply can’t compromise, and that’s where I think a lot of the dysfunction of our political process comes into play.”

  1. He was interviewed by talk raiding host "Mike Church" SIRIUS XM yesterday morning. Interesting comments from both Mr. Church, and the author. Mr. Church makes no secret of his argument for many numbers of states seceding from this "union of states", including his own state of LA.

  3. Yeah BT, Mr. Church has put out some very good "animated films" about the history of our founding fathers and what led us to declare independence from Great Britain. ( Mike Church.com, or founding father films.com)

  4. The thing that tickles me most is the idea that the US should let the South go, but not Texas. I can't quite tell if the Yankee thought that we would choose of our own free will to stay in the Union, or if we should be kept in the Union by main force.

    1. Yup! Mr. Church asked the author the very same question! (Like the state of Texas would allow the northeastern states to co-op them into their little utopia)!!

  5. If the south were allowed to secede the ripple effect would start immediately. All welfare and social program leeches would leave the South and there would be mass migration to the north. The yankee retirees living in the South would go home to keep their benefits. Just a couple of things I can think of right now but I'm sure there are more positive things that would follow. In short order the north would be bankrupt but the South would be much better off.

    1. Right on it and I would add too that we're better off than the North already in that we have better relationships with our blacks than the Northerners do, ironic aint it? I do not see the Panther groups coming down here screaming kill the cracker babies, LOL, perhaps very wise of em too...

Oh - like (for example) GAZILLIONS of true Patriots packing a truck and heading south ASAP, even if it meant abandoning homes and property?!

This is the first Leftard Idea I've ever heard that I could actually, enthusiastically, SUPPORT!!

The New York Times reviews Better Off Without 'Em: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession by Chuck Thompson.

"If there are good things to be discovered about the South, this book has no use for them. Nashville's music? Not mentioned. Contemporary Southern literature? Mr. Thompson thanks the publisher of the journal Oxford American in his acknowledgments. But his actual text sticks to the ignoramus theory."

  9. I was born a yankee in Washington state, grew up in Minnesota. Have lived in Los Angelos, Memphis, and Indianapolis. Poor old Chuck is an Asperger inflicted Unitarian. What he lacks in social grace he makes up for in intellectual arrogance. I have recently retired but Chuck is just tiring. If this is Chuck's idea of a Gore Vidal wordspread I suggest Chuck has been spending too much time in NY city crackhouses with NY city Timesman. Maybe follow Gore's invention of the liquor IV.
