Sugarloaf Mound

Sugarloaf Mound, also called the Sonotabac Prehistoric Indian Mound, is located in historic Vincennes. This mound is believed to be a naturally occurring hill that was used by Native Americans as both a religious and burial site. A shaft dug into the center of the mound revealed layers of bone fragments, ash, and clay.

Sugarloaf Indian Mound

Large picture

It is the 2nd tallest conical mound in North America...........photo does not do it justice........... Anyway, there is a hopewell observatory north of us I have driven to the top many times but have never climbed it, it is over 100 feet higher than sugarloaf so that’s next on my list of things to do..................wish I had a pic of it it has 13 mound rings with specific breaks in it that on each solstice the sun crosses in the breaks and aligns up with a mound 120 miles away. incredible what those ancient Indians could do huh? ........just wanted to write about something positive for a change.
