In response to a recent increase in crime, Paragould Mayor Mike
Gaskill and Police Chief Todd Stovall offered residents at a town
hall meeting Thursday night at West View Baptist Church what could be
considered an extreme solution — armed officers patrolling the
streets on foot.
Stovall told the group of almost 40 residents that beginning in 2013, the department would deploy a new street crimes unit to high crime areas on foot to take back the streets.
"[Police are] going to be in SWAT gear and have AR-15s around their neck," Stovall said. "If you're out walking, we're going to stop you, ask why you're out walking, check for your ID."
Stovall said while some people may be offended by the actions of his department, they should not be.
"We're going to do it to everybody," he said. "Criminals don't like being talked to."
Gaskill backed Stovall's proposed actions during Thursday's town hall.

Makes me want to take a vacation there. I've never been to Arkansas.
ReplyDeleteThat would be fun. The chief must have voted for Hussein.
DeletePolice chief needs to be tarred and feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Next should be the mayor and the city council members that hired this ass hat.

What a stupid man. Didn't even consult the town attorney.
DeleteI have for some time now been trying to remember the author and book titles of little books I read as a child. They featured anarchists, a word I barely comprehended, and policemen who always seemed to be saying "Papers, citizen." I searched G. K. Chesterton's Father Brown books but couldn't find it there. In 1948, at 15, I flew from Asheville to Tucson, AZ to accompany my grandmother home on the bus. At every stop through Arizona and West Texas I saw Mexican looking people being asked for their papers. I was glad I didn't look like a Mexican. Well, we may all be Mexicans soon. Russell Means said we are all Indians now. Most Mexicans are Indians. I hang my papers from a lanyard around my neck to have them ready. A driver's license and a concealed carry permit. Should be enough.

DeleteQuite prophetically.

ReplyDeleteAbout the only reason for stopping me would be to be sure that I'm the arch-terrorist they've been keeping paper on. Holder has already set the end-game into play and is keeping paper on all of us. Google's server farms can keep an almost infinite amount of data, I've been told. Like internal combustion engines, server farm size is limited only by ability to cool it.
What's in your file? Heh.
But we are assured that the regulations come with strict guidelines and oversight. Oh, well then, not to worry.

DeleteOf course, not a worry in the world.........
