A shooting and carjacking early Saturday at the Travel Centers of America on U.S. Route 42, north of London, led to the arrest of two teens believed responsible for a robbery and murder spree in Columbus this week.
Devonere Simmonds, 17, and Nathaniel Brunner, 18, both of Columbus, were arrested in Dayton after allegedly fleeing the local truck stop in a stolen car about 5 a.m., according to Madison County Sheriff Jim Sabin.
Sabin said the car’s driver, as yet unidentified, was fueling the vehicle when Simmonds and Brunner approached with a gun. The man resisted and was shot in the head. The victim staggered into the travel store and collapsed.
Published reports said the victim is in critical condition in a Columbus hospital.
Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call from the store at 4:50 a.m. A review of the truck stop’s surveillance video showed Simmonds and Brunner as the suspected carjackers, Sabin said.
Tara Oiler works as a fuel desk cashier at the TA and said she witnessed the incident.
“They came in about 1 a.m. and sat at the counter for about an hour and a half and slept,” she said. “They tried to use the phone a few times when they got up, but couldn’t get hold of anyone. I even walked between them at one point and said ‘Hi.’
“The guy who was shot came in and bought a Mountain Dew and a sandwich. He was walking back to his car when the guy in the all-black shirt pulled out a gun and shot him in the back of the head. The man dropped instantly. The two guys got in the car and drove off, heading east on I-70.”

And to think...as a Hoosier, it is illegal for me to carry a sidearm whenever I venture into the state of Ohio (ten times a week) because the Buckeyes don't recognize my Indiana LTC.
ReplyDeleteSo...if I wanna be a law-abiding citizen, I must disarm and put myself at the tender mercies of animalistic SOBs like Devonere Simmonds and Nathaniel Brunner.
Almost makes a guy wanna break the law...
Eff Ohio.
Oh, I am sure you never do........:)
