No Sir that is not the "largest Cal. rifle ever made" Holland and Holland Limited Made a breach loading side X side Rifle with a one inch bore called an "Army and Navy Double" It was used as a "dangerous game" rife in the late 19th century.(I believe H&H made bores even larger) The largest bore I have ever seen or know about was a German Muzzle loading flintlock "wall gun" it is a 30MM rifle with an almost 6ft barrel.
Ok Brock the official Cal of the rifle was a "4 Bore" that's a 26.7 MM or 1.058 inch. It fired a 1750 Gr.(1/4 lb.) hard lead bullet at 1330 FPS with a 16 dram(437gr.)charge. They didn't even try to reload the cases. The rifles weigh in at 22-24 lb. bare. They were used during the "Golden age" of big game hunting in Africa from the mid 1870's till around 1900. H&H DID make a larger rifle known as a "2" bore, but they were VERY unpopular. It was said that the recoil would knock out even the strongest PH.--Ray P.S. the "wall gun" is in a privet collection.
SSK had a sporting 40m/m round too. As in you could fire from the M-79 series. There was a pic on their site. I wish the 40 m/m wasn't a D/D. It's not like you can get HEDP's at a local flea market.
