Sticks That Made Thunder

Thought of you brother

Was cutting grass and listening to bluegrass and heard this song. I
had never heard it before. It is amazing. Made me think of those that
keep Dixie alive. Thanks for being who you are.

The Steeldrivers - Sticks That Made Thunder Lyrics

My roots are deeper than the bones the others
my colors they change with the sun
my branches we’re higher than anything on the hillside
on the day that I watched them all come

Some wear the color of the sky in the winter
some we’re as blue as the night
they came like a storm with the light of the morn
and they fell thru the whole day and night

Colors flew high and they danced in the sky
as I watched them come over the hill
then to my wonder sticks that made thunder
such a great number lay still

When the light came again there was death on the wind
as the buzzards made way for the worms
and the little white trees that don’t bend in the breeze
for the ones that will never return

The colors flew high and they danced in the sky
as I watched them come over the hill
then to my wonder sticks that made thunder
such a great number lay still

Those that have fallen they come when I call them
and answer the best that they can
but all they can see is what they used to be
and that’s all that they understand

The colors flew high and they danced in the sky
as I watched them come over the hill
then to my wonder sticks that made thunder
such a great number lay still

Colors flew high and they danced in the sky
as I watched them come over the hill
then to my wonder sticks that made thunder
such a great number lay still

  2. At first, I thought you were going to post a video clip from blazing saddles, lol. :)

That's some good music right there, and some good/bad pictures.

  4. Friend Brock,
I truly enjoyed the music, it is done in a most excellent manner.
On the 24th of this month I am performing a 2 pm slot at the 2nd annual "Blues to Bluegrass Harmony Music Fest" with my new band the "Renegades".
I performed there last year with Christy and Dalton, doing a set of my original material that we do in the pubs and honkytonks. You, know most my stuff is a mix of "red dirt and Celtic" . We did a couple encores, so I guess the folks liked us well enough. At least well enough to be asked back this year.
After a ton of thought about what to play this year, I have decided to change it up a bit and the set will consist of my originals in the WBTS flavor that honoured me with 7 Dixie Beacon Music Awards". As 7 songs isn't enough to fill the allotted time, I am adding 7 Blackbirds (the extended version) to the list and closing with Wazhazhe from my 1998 CD "No Need to Spludge" the story told to me by Grandfather about growing up on the Rez and being forcibly shipped off to Publix school of the worst sorts. That being, torn away from all family and tribal connections. I figure between all the pro-South songs and ending with such an eye opening and heart ripping story of the Osage, it at the very least make for a memorable performance, as well as a history lesson.
Who knows they may really surprise me and enjoy it. If not I reckon I won't be asked back next year. Nonetheless, no one can say, I have lost any pride in my Confederate heritage be it red or white.
As soon as the set is over, we have to load up and drive Nawth West of here, for an evening gig at another outdoor mini fest (3 other bands as well as mine). I imagine with it having a beer truck and all, we will just do the usual rowdy songs, and a few classic style "my wife ran off with my blue tick hound, and I sure do miss that dog" kind of songs.
All in all it will be a day of doing what I love most, "playing music for a live crowd." Truly wish you and yours could be there.
    Warmest regards,
    T
