The Bonnie Blue Flag


Don Troiani's print "The Bonnie Blue Flag" features Confederate Private Tisdale Stepp, Company “F”, 14th North Carolina singing "Bonnie Blue Flag" and rallying the regiment during the fighting at the “Mule Shoe”during the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse, May 12th, 1864.

Company F were know as the "Rough and Ready Guards" from Buncombe County, N.C., 14th North Carolina Infantry "Last At Appomattox!", Ramseur's Brigade, Rodes' Division, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.The 14th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 4th Volunteers, completed its organization in June, 1861, at Garysburg, North Carolina. Its companies were raised in the counties of Halifax, Onslow, Anson, Cleveland, Wake, Cumberland, Northampton, Stanly, and Davidson.
