A former Army general believes that when Jesus returns, he’s gonna be packin’ heat.

Retired Lt. Gen. William “Jerry” Boykin, now the Family Research Council’s executive vice president, says the Son of God will be armed with an AR-15 assault rifle when he returns, in a speech at the Pro-Family Legislators Conference in Dallas.

“[Jesus is] coming back as a warrior, carrying a sword,” Boykin said. “And I believe now, I’ve checked this out — I believe that sword he’ll be carryin’ when he comes back is an AR-15.”

Many in the audience laughed and some applauded, according to audio of the speech released Tuesday.

  2. Jerry was born and raised in New Bern, NC. Graduated from New Bern High School with several of my close friends. I attended a school out in the county.

    1. Thanks. I didn't know that and New Bern isn't far from here in Cape Carteret. My 6th great grandfather came over with Baron Graffenried who founded New Bern in 1710. Do you still live around there?

  3. Yes, about 4 miles from downtown on the other side of the Trent River. I haven't met Jerry yet but he comes here fairly often and speaks to the Rotary club or whatever.
I hope to get to meet him sometime. I had breakfast this morning with two guys that know him one of which went to school with him.

  4. Forgot to comment on your connection to Baron Graffenried. That would almost make you royalty among the hottie tottie old New Bernians. Do you mind saying what your 6th great grandfathers name was? I don't know that much about New Bern history but I'm just curious.

    1. :) Johann Christian Kunitzsli, which was anglicized to John Koonce.

(My name was changed from Koonce to Townsend when I was adopted by my aunt after my mother died when I was thirteen months old.)

  5. great! no one has been very successful in tracking my family history. We moved into
Craven co. from Beaufort Co where my dad's folks settled during the years when
Beaufort Co. was Bath Co. 1680 to 1710 or so if I remember right. Apparently there were a couple of generations where the records were either not kept or destroyed.
Supposedly my ancestor was the first white man to settle on the south shore of the Pamlico River. in the Blount's Creek area at a place called Hill's Point. During the late unpleasantness D.H. Hill established a fort near Hill's point which makes me wonder if there was a family connection to D. H..
