NC: NO GUNS ALLOWED: Bogue Inlet Pier Changes Policy

I've gone there constantly for 15 years.  When I asked the nice lady who had worked there all this time, she said the owner didn't want guns on the pier and she didn't want to be around them either.  I replied that the signs would only encourage those with evil intent and I would not return as I carried all the time

  1. I have no obligation to shield others from the consequences of their own self inflicted stupidity. If you believe that a mere sign will prevent evil people from doing bad things, then you are an idiot. One of life's lessons it that stupidity will get you killed.

  2. In Virginia, I can legally ignore those signs. At most, I can be asked to leave. The whole point of "concealed" is that what they don't know won't hurt them.

    1. I don't know if there is a penalty here for ignoring private owner's signs.

  3. Brock, does Mike Stanley still own the pier? As far as carrying concealed when it's posted not allowed in a business, if they (owner/management) find out you're carrying, all they can do is ask you to leave the premises. If you refuse to do so, they can have you charged with misdemeanor "Simple Trespass". It is NOT a firearms violation.

      I don't know. Maybe a Yankee bought it. :)

Good to know and I shall carry on! Thanks.

  4. I'm wondering if the sign is an unintended consequence of the recent law change that allows concealed carry in places that serve alcohol unless the owner posts a sign saying it's not allowed? I'm assuming the pier sells beer? And I think I am right about the new concealed carry rule.

    1. The pier does sell beer, but all I remember, which may be wrong, :) is that the law changed to allow guns in restaurants that served beer and wine as long as the carriers didn't partake.

  5. Brock, I hope your memory of the new law is correct. I really don't know but was thinking I heard or read that the owner had the option to ban weapons.

Oh, he most certainly does, but as Eric posted below, there would be no penalty to continue going and since I don't buy anything there anyway, it would be a mute issue.
