UTair Aviation 767-300 NEAR MISS? GO AROUND at Barcelona-El Prat

Yesterday, early in the morning...What you see is what happened.

An UTair Boeing 767-300 (VQ-BSX) incoming from Moscow as UT5187 and AerolĂneas Argentinas Airbus A340-300 (LV-FPV) were involved into what could be the bigger disaster of Barcelona Airport.

The Utair 767 was about to land on Runway 02 while the Argentinas was crossing the runway.

By the time russian pilots sight Argentinas (they were taxiing to Holding point of RW25R for take-off) on runway while they were on final approach, they did their best making an impressive and close go around.

After that incidence the plane landed safely on runway 02, and the Argentinas took-off heading Buenos AiresYesterday, early in the morning...What you see is what happened.

    1. I guess he wouldn't have been able to abort too many seconds later.

    2. Yeah, maybe two and a half seconds longer and the story would have been different.

    3. I was thinking slightly more than that, but it was difficult for me to determine at that angle. Also, I read that the tower afterwards stated that the planes were exactly where they were supposed to be and that there was sufficient distance between the two for a safe landing! I ain't no pilot, but I don't see that at all. Seems to be a CYOA statement to me, if there ever was one. :)

  2. The tower controller is full of it....the controller and ground control were not communicating and almost killed a host of people. Aircraft controllers NEVER allow aircraft to get this close. This is what I expect when nation states go into depressions as is the case with Spain....everyone is more concerned about their financial condition than on their job, if indeed they have a job.
