HSLDA: What is the status of Common Core in my state?

At its zenith, 45 states, four territories, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense had signed on to at least some aspect of the Common Core State Standards. Thanks to you, that trend is being reversed.

  1. I have two kids still in school; one in high school, one in middle school.
My h-schooler has come home pissed off/in tears for the first two days of school.

Remedial classes are being forced on the kids who don't need it. They are forcing kids who are academically unchallenged to sit through even MORE boredom and going over the same crap for the sluggish, unprepared, apathetic who don't want to be there in the first place. I live in a rural, mostly white area and yet the failure rate of these kids is abysmal. Something like 40 out of 150 are held back a year. This is apparent as we can't even hire anyone who wants to work, or can find their way to do anything productive or try to earn that paycheck. They all want a check for showing up.

also, they are cracking down on the nanny state crap. I won't get into details, but they are crushing the spirits of anyone who is independent, creative or wants to learn, OR QUESTIONS THEIR MOTIVES FOR WHY THEY ARE TEACHING THIS. The smart kids are going to start dropping out, left and right, and really, what harm is that? public education is about babysitting and indoctrination.

Thanks and I would take them out as they can basically teach themselves with your guidance. What happened above?

  2. Thank you for your kind words, and link.

I did homeschool them for awhile, they missed their "friends" and at the moment want to stay in school. They have to be on board with it, for homeschooling to work.
I have to admit that my h-schooler should be in college level math classes. She was teaching her algebra teacher calculus without ever having taken it before, with mimimum instruction on theorums.

after asking her (this year) new math teacher HOW they came about that theorum and why it is used where it is, the teacher stated, "That's beyond your intelligence, I can't explain that to you. You wouldn't understand.".

My guess is that "teacher" doesn't know himself.

After thinking about this common core for a bit, I remembered that I read somewhere that H.S. diploma was going to mandatory for any kind of job = that homeschooling wouldn't be acceptable to go to college or find employment, Not after THEY take over everything.

Join the HSLDA if homeschooling. It's only $10 a month. If you start again, also get a homeshooling group going so they can participate with others in different sorts of activities. We have bowling, tennis, beach, cooking, shooting different classes and more.

    2. thanks again.

They might go for it, if it weren't for giving up FFA and in school musical instrument instruction.

I'm shocked the progressives haven't shut FFA down, as the emphasis is on family, God, independence and the entrepreneurial spirit.

  3. You always hear "they'll be socially inept if you homeschool them." To which I reply, "Have you seen society lately? Not exact a club I'd want to join. Besides, I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me as a member." (A little Groucho thrown in for good measure)

    1. :) Homeschoolers exceed all the publix skool ones in scores and everything else that I'm aware of.
