A South Carolina pawn shop owner who sells guns, guitars and an array of other items says that his bank forced him to close his accounts, and he thinks it is because of the weapons.

Morris Williams, who owns Inman Gun and Pawn, says he thought his relationship with SunTrust Bank was fine — “excellent” in fact.

“We have ample funds in the account to do anything we needed to do,” Williams told Fox Carolina, adding that he thought “everything was just wonderful.”

But then the bank sent him a letter.

  1. If the right is to mount a defense of freedom with a real chance of success, it must form groups to reach young people. The liberals and progressives are kicking conservative’s ass when getting the message to America’s youth. The right has solid messages which can move and influence young people. They simply go about it the wrong way. Read the studies you never influence people with logic and thought but by touching feeling and emotions.

Conservatives have some fantastic messages that can touch people’s hearts. Probably the strongest message is FREEDOM. This can be packaged and presented in so many positive ways. We need to sell ideas no different from the way Pepsi markets Mtn Dew. Being older than dirt gives me a historical perspective most young folk are missing. I remember the launch of “Mountain Dew” by Pepsi. I have watched the marketing go from Mountain Dew being portrayed by hillbilly moonshiners into a sleek youth oriented beverage. Conservatives need to wake up and quit talking as if it is the 1950s. The conservative message needs a makeover to reach the new youth.

I am not saying we change the message just put the message in a new package. Much of the allure in the 60s with the youth movement was about freedom. The movement was designed to give the youth the freedom to look different, to think different, different music, different attitudes. It was about rebellion and that is a message that always resonates with the youth. The message must make conservative ideas fresh, new and different from what is. In the end, we do not change the message only the way it is perceived.

In conclusion, if conservatives keep talking as Ward did to the Beav they will lose. The goal must be to make conservative ideas cool. The message must lose the 1050s butch haircut and pocket protector image.

  2. Seems like a talk with a lawyer about suing for damages is in order.
One of two things would happen....either the bank would lose big time
sending the message that such discriminatory conduct will be costly OR
the courts will have to make it known PUBLICLY that they as an agent
of the government aid, abet and support such conduct against businesses
that in ALL other ways are perfectly legal.
