SWAT team responds to college staff member carrying umbrella

A SWAT team on the campus of California State University San Marcos surrounded a staff member equipped with protective rain gear this week.

The incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning, was prompted by a call to the San Diego County Sheriff’s office of a bald white male, wearing a black shirt and jeans and walking across campus carrying a rifle. This resulted in a shelter-in place order for some 400 staff and students going through orientation before the start of the fall session. Rapidly, facility and classmates banded together to barricade doors with tables and chairs, expecting the worst.

The situation resolved itself after 30 minutes when an umbrella-bearing teacher figured out he matched the description of the alleged gunman and surrendered to law enforcement.

  1. So the mere possession of an umbrella, is enough to an entire college to s*it their collective pants!! The ability to think clearly, and rationality seems to escape most people nowadays.... Perhaps that's why their referred to as sheeple!
    Really quite disturbing....

  4. The same thing happened in Greenville, NC last year. The cops were called because
a kid was seen downtown, near the ECU campus carrying a SWORD. It was covered live on TV. Every available police unit in town plus the campus police, sheriffs units and HP were on the scene. On TV they showed cops leaning across the hoods of their cars with sniper rifles. The whole down town was shut down.

Over on campus at ECU when a particular class got out a kid heard the other kids
talking about what was going on and turned himself in. It was a rainy day. He lived off
campus and walked to class. The mascot of ECU being a pirate, he had an umbrella
with a handle that resembled a sword. It was stuck down into the corner of his back pack with the handle sticking up as he walked to class and some fool called it in.
Then the rest of the fools (police) showed up over nothing.

The first story that came out on the news was that he had an AR 15 or something.
That turned out of be an exaggeration of "a dangerous weapon" which of course turned out to be an umbrella.

  5. Demilitarize the Police

I am not saying these terminator squads have never saved a life but I cannot name one instance where they have. Kind of like the TSA at airports, groping your testicials has not stopped one terrorist. However, I can show you daily where these goons have shot a family pet, killed or beaten some innocent. It is completely the wrong mindset for police to have. I do not care who you are when you pick up a machinegun, dress in full body armor, and pull down a facemask to hide your identity you change…PERIOD. You are no longer a police officer.

Certainly not a Peace Officer as I believe they were originally called.

  7. We do need well armed police with the best tactical training available. But we also need to hold them responsible for their f'ups too. The need to use good intel with their fast response. If the cops react to heavy handed we bitch. If too soft we bitch. We need them but we need more controll over them. The police are hired by our ELECTED officials and we, as members of society do have a say in how they act.

  8. I guess the fad "see something, say something" could be blamed.
The indoctrination of a society into a paranoid one.
