"True, we cannot sue the individual criminal cop. We have to sue their bosses. Bring the lawsuit against the actual police department then further up the chain include in the city, county or state, which holds jurisdiction over the department. Start making these people bleed money. Nothing will get their attention faster.

We need to follow the leftist ideas follow the teaching of Cloward and Piven. Simply overwhelm the system and bury them with lawsuits. Make that thin blue line bleed green and they will change their policies. Even if we do not win every lawsuit, we must keep them flooded with “nuisance suits” which also burns their resources. Win or lose we win by making them bleed money.

I come know I across as a bit revolutionary and confrontational but you should know tiny bit of my history. I know their tactics. Why? I was a 60s radical. I knew Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Bobby Seale and others. I was in the 68 Chicago Democratic nomination riots. I wrote articles for The Black Panthers. I was a communist. And I am no less a radical today at 62 than I was at 15. I just got a brain and switched sides. Then as now, I will do what is needed."

  1. As long as the all suffering taxpayer at large must foot the bill for the criminality and misconduct of badgemonkeys NOTHING CHANGES. So what if the county has to fork out a million bucks to pay off a victim. Who cares if the city is 2 million over budget this year because of lawsuits being settled. Just raise property taxes again, just increase the cigarette or liquor tax. JUST MAKE THE TAXPAYER SUFFER.
Humans are a coldly selfish species and those in power and the badgemonkeys they employ are no different. As long as THEY don't suffer personal, direct and painful consequences for their misconduct it WILL NOT STOP. Want to change things?
Keep booting politicians out of office until enough of them are elected to pass a law that removes the insanity of "immunity". Make LEO, the brass who manage them and the commissioners etc. who hire that brass personally, financially and criminally responsible for abuse and things will change. But as long as the current system is in place where NOBODY is ever held accountable and ALL damages come out of the pocket of the taxpayer NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE.

    1. Yes, the individual cop must be able to be sued and he alone must suffer the financial consequences and whatever more may come.

  2. Dan your observation is 100% correct. Your statement, “Humans are a coldly selfish species” is dead on. That is why I am no longer a communist it does not work for the human species. However on a purely intellectual level I can still argue in favor of Communism. The Cloward and Piven strategy will work but not unless there are hundreds of lawsuits. A few scattered lawsuits will make no difference. The goal has to be hundreds or better thousands of lawsuits. Government like any large organization reacts and moves slowly.

The goal is to overwhelm the system before it can adapt. It will not just be the cost of any settlements they will make the headlines. It is the hidden costs we can really bury them. They will have attorney fees, extra paper work and the hours required for court time. Make the police HATE their job because of all of the extra paperwork and court appearances. Use a tactic from Alinsky enlist the aid of a local activist group to begin FOIA requests concerning every lawsuit. Again make the police hate going to work.

Within the next couple of months many if not most cities will have already set next year’s budget. The police budget is already set so hit them hard and fast. Every dollar paid out reduces the cash available. Suddenly the budget is overspent. Yes this will cause massive tax increases but that is part of the tactic. Make everyone bleed money over these police actions. We need to shift the public opinion away from their current view of officer friendly to one of Nazi Storm Troopers. Currently I would guess less the two percent of the general public have even heard of the current police abuses. Once the ponderous public see their tax money handed out by the millions because of the police THEY will demand a change.

Due to the costs we may see your end solution come to pass. Politicians hate having their butts chewed because of the actions of those they should be controlling. Cities, counties and states may revoke the officer amnesty due to all the lawsuits. Either way in the end the police will be forced to obey the law and that is the goal.

      The absolute key to success.

  3. Revocation of qualified immunity would go a long way towards ending these abuses.
It's not likely to happen though. In essence we have isolated cases....many of them yes, but still separate discrete instances of officer abuse leading to legal action. Each one of these legal cases makes it's way through the system one at a time independent of the other cases. There is no "big picture" showing a coherent and ongoing problem that needs to be addressed. On the other side we have the bane of all municipalities.....public sector unions. If ANY politician at virtually ANY level makes ANY attempt to hold union members accountable and liable the union gets involved including taking the entire membership out on strike..... a very potent method of getting the attention of the politicians. And all politicians make decisions based on who makes the most noise, who makes the biggest impact, who gets the most press.
The individuals involved in lawsuits are NEVER going to have the impact a slow down or walkout will have therefore the unions will always win. Until the public at large finds a way to organize, act and react in a large coordinated method like the unions do then the unions have the upper hand, the power and get the results they seek.
