New American Muscle: 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT, Mustang GT500 & Camaro Z/28

 Hellcat

1. Simply put, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is now the most powerful muscle car you can buy. With a touch of the pedal the 6.2L supercharged V8 body-slams a whopping 707 rear wheel hp (rumors place it closer to over 800) and 650lbft of torque to the pavement. To put things in perspective the Dodge Viper only produces 640hp. If you are brave enough to try, the top speed is 205mph. With the launch control set, the Hellcat will run the quarter mile in 11 seconds flat. It is available with either an 8spd Torque Flight automatic or a 6 – speed manual swapped in from the Viper. It is surprisingly nimble around the corners, but still handles like a muscle car should. Track testing brought about interesting results by demonstrating that the automatic makes the jump from 0-60 in just 3.6 seconds, which is actually faster than the manual’s 3.9 second 0-60. For those of us pining for the old days of big motors and rear wheel drive, this bad boy is definitely a top contender.

    1. Sure would. :) The fastest I've ever ridden in was a 289 Coba. As I remember, the 289 did 0-60 in 4.2 and the 427 in 4.0, both sticks of course.

  2. Yeah, had a friend in HS who's dad owned a cobra, had both 289 and 427. Real deals, no replica BS. I had a chance at a 67 GT350 or a 1970 Barracuda with the 'cuda package. 340, racer brown cam, 3.55 posi, Hooker headers, Weiman aluminum intake, other tricksy factory goodies. Bought the Barracuda and never regretted it except that I sold it and I regret that to this day and always will. Added some more from the old Mopar 'hustle stuff' parts via direct connection. Best overall car I ever owned, ran low 13's, handled awesome and got decent highway MPG, not that I cared about MPG and still really do not. I love the Cobras, GT 350 up to 1968. I appreciate the links to these great AMERICAN cars. Detroit Iron never really dies.

    1. direct connection

I had a cab company once and took a '68 Dart ex-cab (K-frame from Direct Connection) which of course had four doors, kept everything as a cab, but put in a built 383 with an Art Carr tranny and everything else you could think of. Was a real trip! :)
