:) In Vietnam they make rice whiskey at 60, 70 and 80%. One shot or two of 80% is all I do and then drink beer, but the Russians drink the whole bottle and at 90% it's amazing it doesn't kill them. My mother-in-law tests the 80% to be sure it is so, by putting a chopstick in it and then if it will burn when exposed to a lighter, it is authentic 80%. :)
That's a great test for alcohol content. Wonder if Mega-Bev would mind me bringing in some chopsticks and give it a go??! My troubles are miniscule, so I would only need to give this a tiny sip. A whole new product for flame eaters, however!
Reminds me of this http://www.jumpoverthere.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Vodka.jpg
But damn - $55?? That can't be dollars? can it? :) This place has it for $16 http://www.theliquorbarn.com/spirytus-wesoly-750ml/ This place is $20 http://www.superwinewarehouse.com/r/items/bak-s-spirytus
This vodka was just approved for sale in New York and goes for around $22 a bottle. One young man said that his first sip felt like getting punched in the solar plexus: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/spirit-state-approves-192-proof-spirytus-allowing-new-yorkers-buzz-article-1.183215
WHAT? No more Everclear? How do the kids make PJ these days?
I think anything over 100 proof will burn. I dropped a match in an empty Bacardi rum bottle once when I was in college long ago. The flame that shot out burned my finger pretty good before I could snatch it out of the way.
You can buy liquor stronger than this in most any county in the south. Just not at the store. Better know who your buying it from. Not much pride in craftsmanship anymore.
now you really could say you use that for "medicinal purposes" ;)

ReplyDeleteThe Everclear was listed at 193 here, so it can't get too much purer. :)
