While such moves CAN work they are VERY risky. The videos we see demonstrating this tactic are all staged. In the real world you run the VERY real risk of ending up VERY dead from attempting these moves. Tis far better to see the problem coming then to have it sneak up behind you.
When I was in Korea, my instructor in Tae Kwon Do Oh Do Kwan (i.e., free-form Korean karate) was a ROK Special Forces NCO.
ReplyDeleteI asked him what can be done when someone is standing behind you with a rifle?
He said you must force the enemy soldier to become impatient and get close enough to you to prod you in the back with his weapon.
Then, if you're lucky, you very quickly swing around, grab the weapon, and hit the guy, all while hoping you don't get killed during the process.
That instructor was a believer in kicking, and in our classes, he encouraged us to use our feet more.
