Police, fire and HEMSI units were called to a home on the 2500 block of Bonnie Oaks Drive around 6 p.m. Sunday.
Huntsville police said the woman, who stays at the home with her mother, had a restraining order against her ex, Bradley Skinner, who showed up at the home Sunday afternoon, broke in a back door, and fired a shot at her, which missed.
Police said the woman responded by firing a shotgun back at her ex. This shot hit Skinner. Police say he was armed with a pistol and knife when she shot him.
Meanwhile, her mother called 911 from inside the home, and police soon arrived at the scene.
Responding officers found the woman in an open garage with a shotgun in her hands.
They ordered her to drop the weapon, and police confirmed an officer fired a shot at the woman when she did not comply and turned towards the officer.
