Always heard the tanker saying was to keep firing until it catches fire or changes shape. If it moves somebody is going to race it.
Had an uncle who was a USMC tanker in the S. Pacific during WWII. Passed in 1994. RIP Uncle Bill. He was very active with veterans issues in Nashville and an American Legion Post Commander for years.
