Massive Windows 10 News Hides 5 Nasty Surprises

Sometimes showing off has a way of coming back to bite you. In an understandably celebratory post Microsoft MSFT -3.85% has revealed Windows 10 is now active on over 200 million devices (though this includes Xbox One upgrades and Windows 10 Mobile smartphones). Then it made a series of boasts which exposed something rather shocking…

In an attempt to illustrate just how much Windows 10 users love the new operating system, Microsoft rolled out stat after stat about growing adoption and momentum (Black Friday and Christmas play their part here). But then things got weird:

“One of the ways we measure our progress with Windows 10 is looking at how people are using Windows,” explained Microsoft Senior Vice President Yusuf Mehdi. “Recently we reached another milestone – people have spent over 11 billion hours on Windows 10 in December alone, spending more time on Windows than ever before.”

  1. Nothing surprising here.

Dairy cows have chips implanted so that when they walk up to the feed trough, it registers which cow is in front of the sensor. It can then dispense whatever amount of grain, medication, etc., that the farmer wants that particular cow to consume.

Chips in humans won't fly, but spying on them through their tv's, cell phones, smart phones, computers, smart appliances, smart meters, GPS devices, OnStar, etc., is A-OK.

Quit mooing; it's time for your milking, humans. :)

As a side note...I have a friend in computer programming and repair. He said Windows 8 was bad enough, but that 10 has way too many spies in it. He doesn't recommend it if you don't want to be spied on.

    1. Thanks. I'm still using 8. Actually my favorite of all time was XP.

  2. Forbes wanted me to defeat my ad-blocker to continue to their site to read the article. By defeating my ad-blocker it would have allowed Forbes to plant a cookie on my machine to track sites visited, shopping habits, and my personal information on non-secure sites. Forbes and others sell this tracking information to multiple players, from advertising firms to foreign governments (although Forbes may not know it). I declined to turn-off my ad-blocker or read the rest of the article. I don't like being followed.

    1. I saw the warning about Java Script also, but I was able to read it without further ado for some reason.

Mine too. In fact, my oldest desktop still has XP on it. It still works very well for in-house use.

  4. That's just stupid. Win10 is an operating system. No One "Spends time" on their operating system. It is just what is going on in the background when what you are really doing is occupying your attention.

MS Business model. Give away product for free. Claim success at how many people are using it.
