Just Amazing: Another Position Change: Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says ‘there is no change’ in U.S. stance on Syria after missile strike

'No role for Assad': Tillerson’s U-turn on Syria regime change

& now another U-Turn! Brought to you by the blithering idiots in the Trump administration.

There’s “no change” in the United States’ military stance on Syria following Thursday’s retaliatory strikes against the Bashar Assad regime, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a new interview.

Rather, the launching of 59 cruise missiles on Shayrat Air Base — believed to be the origin of Syria’s lethal attack against its own citizens — was “related solely to the most recent horrific use of chemical weapons against women, children, and as the President said, even small babies,” Tillerson told ABC’s “This Week” in an interview airing Sunday.

“The strike was a message to Bashar al-Assad that your multiple violations of your agreements at the UN, your agreements under the chemical weapons charter back in 2013 — that those would not go without a response in the future.”

Tillerson, who will visit with Russian officials in Moscow this week, added that “we are asking Russia to fulfill its commitment” to help secure Syria’s chemical weapons and “calling on Bashar al-Assad to cease the use of these weapons.”

  1. They keep sucking me in. Only re-reading Russell Kirk in Abbeville Press on John Randolph of Roanoke today refreshes my will to live. Briefly, Randolph wrote:

"Is it necessary for men at this time of day to make a declaration of the principles of the Republican party? Is it possible that such a declaration could be deemed orthodox when proceeding from lips so unholy as those of an ex-communicant from that church? It is not necessary. These principles are on record; they are engraved upon it indelibly by the press and will live as long as the art of printing is suffered to exist. It is not for any man at this day to undertake to change them; it is not for any men, who then professed them, by any guise or circumspection, to conceal apostasy from them, for they are there—there in the book…. What are they? Love of peace, hatred of offensive war, jealousy of the state governments toward the general government; a dread of standing armies; a loathing of public debt, taxes, and excises; tenderness for the liberty of the citizen; jealousy, Argus-eyed jealousy, of the patronage of the President."

Kirk adds "Such principles are not altogether outmoded. Yet quite beyond yesteryear’s or today’s political controversies, what Randolph of Roanoke gives us is a high example of political courage and candor, never obsolete."

Maybe not outmoded or obsolete but certainly not today espoused by Donald Trump, McCain, Graham, and those real powers behind the throne, Ivanka and Jared K. and their ilk. "the patronage of the President" will destroy what little Republic is left.

    2. And God wills and the Creeks don't rebel I'll be there. As a minimum I'll send a check for two hog dinners. In my service I hold every Sunday morning I talked about the Baptists who love the last of Deuteronomy 14, but never talk about the early verses which deal with diet. I laughingly said that all the cooking I grew up on was hog-based. I lust for NC pulled pork barbecue.
