Declassified docs reveal how Pentagon aimed to nuke USSR and China into oblivion

Plans for a nuclear war devised by the US Army in the 1960s considered decimating the Soviet Union and China by destroying their industrial potential and wiping out the bulk of their populations, newly declassified documents show.

A review of the US general nuclear war plan by the Joint Staff in 1964, which was recently published by George Washington University’s National Security Archive project, shows how the Pentagon studied options “to destroy the USSR and China as viable societies.”

  1. A pity they didn't actually target Mecca and most of the Muslim population centers... and do it.

China and the USSR were/are adversaries, but they're rational. They have their eyes focused on THIS plane of existence. To the Jihadist, whose reward comes after they die, there is only one solution: hasten his trip there.

  2. the '80s bright boys concept of battle which everyone called Mutually Assured Destruction, is probably what is being spoken of here. The realities of nuclear war is everyone loses. If some one hits the other guy with only one weapon(which detonates) the other guy is not going to respond with only one weapon. war is not fair. the other guy is going to do his best to turn the aggressor, his children, dogs, cats, cattle, horses, pigs, grass and whatever else he holds dear into charcoal and glass. the other guy is going to attack to the maximum extent possible the aggressors partners and supporters. this is the only logical response to any level of nuclear attack.
that is upsetting to most people. it certainly upset the russians and the chinese political leaders. that they were aware of the probable response and that they were aware of the training and testing constantly occurring in the military in the west was a somewhat leveling influence. the question people on both sides of a battle must ask is "how much do you love your children"
so yes the ability of both sides was there. everyone was aware of it. battle thru other means did occur. only someone rigorously insane would want to start a nuclear exchange. Know any crazy bastards out there???
