One person was killed Sunday after a lion escaped an enclosure at an animal center in North Carolina, according to media reports.

"While a husbandry team led by a professionally trained animal keeper was carrying out a routine enclosure cleaning, one of the lions somehow left a locked space and entered the space the humans were in and quickly killed one person," the Conservators Center said in the statement, according to ABC News.

  1. This happened a little ways down the road from me. Hope they keep those critters locked up. Hate to have to go on a safari hunt!

  2. A friend of mine manages the Conservators Center. They run mostly on donations, this is a really bad thing for them (and obviously the intern).

As for the animals, for lots of them, this is a last stop for them. Their arent a lot of pet stores that want a 10 year old tiger, or Wolf.

  3. Good news. If lions get loose in NC, no need to travel to Africa, you don't need a guide, don't have to worry about customs, you don't need a permit, there's no "season", and no limits. Be the only guy with a "local" lion at the taxidermy shop.
